TODAY sees the last day of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster along with some brilliant racing at Leopardstown for the first day of Irish Champions Weekend.
As it happens I don't have any selections at Leoparsdtown today but I have four at Doncaster which remarkably for me include three fairly short priced selections, two of which are favourites. Regular followers will know that I rarely back favourites but it just so happens that today I think they represent good value. It could be ideal for those who like their multiple bets.
1.50pm Doncaster
My selection in the first race is my only big priced runner of the day. GREEN POWER has been in excellent form lately winning his last two races and it often pays to back sprinters who are running at top form. In this case he only needs to find a performance that is one or two pounds better again in order to compete. Although this is a very competitive race with quite a few in good form I would have expected him to be priced up at somewhere between 10-1 and 14-1 but he can be backed at 25-1 so with some firms offering 6 places each way and the race sponsors William Hill offering 7 places we simply have to get involved.
2.25pm Doncaster
I was intending to back Shine So Bright in this race who was 11-8 late last night but there has been a non-runner this morning and he is now odds on at around 8-11 which is too short for me to recommend as a single. If you are doing multiples you might want to throw him in as an additional runner though. I do think he will win and he is now about the right price.
3.00pm Doncaster
The favourite THREAT is a very likely winner of this race in my opinion after an excellent performance last time. He is very likely to improve again and I am recommending a win bet on him at 11-10.
3.35pm Doncaster
The big race of the day is the St Leger where we will see LOGICIAN take on 7 rivals for the race that is known as the last ‘Classic' of the flat season. He is an improving horse who is peaking at just the right time whereas his main market rival Sir Dragonet has to go back to the Derby to find his best piece of form. Logician at even money looks a very fair bet to me and I think he'll stay the distance no problem at all.
4.45pm Doncaster
There have been two non-runners in this race leaving only 3 runners but I still think that QAYSAR is an excellent price at around 2-1. Arguably his best performance came over 1 mile and he won nicely last time out over 7 furlongs in a race that I thought was a good quality competition. I expect him to win today despite having to give a bit of extra weight to the three year old Bayroot.
Superb again VoV.
