I HAVE somehow ended up with an incredible 12 selections for Saturday's racing so let's hope I get a few winners to keep the kettle boiling. Gulliver at 16-1 was ideal last week along with Summer Moon finishing 3rd at 50-1 in the Cesarewitch and it even looked like he might win it about a furlong from home.
We're off to Ascot for Champions Day where I am getting creative with a few bets and also going for a couple of selections in some races. There is also jumps action at Market Rasen and Ffos Las and I have a selection from each course in two decent handicaps as the jumps season leaps into action.
Most of the selections are discussed on the podcast so have a listen and if you have Apple Podcasts you can find us on there too. Please subscribe and give us a review if you can!
1.35pm Ascot
The heavy ground will be ideal for HELLO YOUMZAIN who looks top class under these conditions and should have the beating of most of them. 6-1 is excellent value in my view. For an each way alternative at a big price go for LIBRISA BREEZE at 18-1 with Betfair or Paddy Power who are paying 4 places. He won this in 2017 and will also appreciate the conditions.
2.10pm Ascot
Stradivarius looks a good thing as usual for this one and it's probably a question of who finishes second. I think there might be a bit of value in the ‘without the favourite' market where we can back CLEONTE at 28-1 each way. I wouldn't go mad on that one but at the prices we don't have to put big stakes on to get a bit of value.
2.45pm Ascot
I had a good look for some each way value in this one but I keep coming back to STAR CATCHER who looks like a good bet to win. He will love the conditions and looks like the class act in the race.
3.20pm Ascot
Again I am taking liberties by going for two selections in this race but there is method in the madness. One of them is LORD GLITTERS who I think is a rock solid each way shout given the ground and trip. The other bit of value I think is BENBATL but he is a win only bet given that soft ground is going to be a bit of an unknown. If he takes to it he could wipe the floor with the rest of them and the 7-1 available on him will look daft.
4.00pm Ascot
Listeners to the podcast will note that I didn't recommend a bet in this race but since recording on Friday morning ADDEYBB has now drifted out to 6-1 and for me that is another rock solid each way bet if you are that way inclined. The conditions will be ideal for him and I think he will be there or thereabouts with Magical being the obvious danger.
4.40pm Ascot
This is a 20 runner handicap so I make no apology for throwing three darts at it. The main selection is CLON COULIS who I rate a really strong shout for the race with ideal conditions and one of the best jockeys over this course and distance in the saddle.
The first alternative at a decent price is my old mate ESCOBAR who we can back at 18-1 with 6 places on offer which is not to be sniffed at. He is ultra-consistent and shouldn't mind the ground today. Much like Gulliver last week who has the same owners he is likely to pop up and win one of these soon enough and if he continues to hit the frame regularly at each way prices we can continue to back him with no real complaints.
Third choice at an even bigger price is WAARIF who is now available at 40-1. He is another consistent David O'Meara horse who will like conditions and has Danny Tudhope in the saddle as a bonus.
4.15 Ffos Las
Switchng over to the jumps mindset now and we have the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las which is set up as a handicap but attracts a really high quality field. I like the look of Mohaayed and CHTI BALKO at the prices and I'm taking a chance on Chti Balko at double figure odds. He goes well fresh, will enjoy the 2 mile trip on soft ground and has been dropped a very lenient 13lb by the handicapper over his last 3 or 4 runs. I can see him bouncing back with a big run in this one.
4.20 Market Rasen
The well-named WHOSHOTWHO is a very interesting runner in this one for Dr Richard Newland and Sam Twiston-Davies. He is lightly raced and has two course and distance wins to his name. The conditions will suit nicely and the fact that he goes well fresh makes him a solid each way proposition for me. The alternative selection would be Luckofthedraw for Sam's Dad Nigel Twiston-Davies who also looks like a fair price.
So those are my 12 selections for Saturday. As always, bet sensibly and good luck to everyone!
Good listen on the podcast VoV, I’ll be on a few of yours today. Keep up the good work
