IT WAS another profitable weekend of tips for me last time making it four winning weekends in a row since we started the Gambla Racing Podcast.
Saint Calvados won nicely and I had the 1-2 in that race with Vaniteux finishing a close second at 33-1. Sunset Showdown also finished 2nd later on so with most of the tips being non-runners with the bad weather at Doncaster and Newbury that was enough to give us a nice profit for the day.
This week on the podcast I was joined by John Egan to discuss all of Saturday’s ITV Racing card. Have a listen to hear not just my picks but some bonus tips from John too.
A summary of my tips are as follows:
1.20pm Wetherby
This is a poor race on a very good day of racing. The tentative pick would be COUGAR'S GOLD but it's only a small each way bet for me.
1.35pm Ascot
DOCTOR DEX has decent form at the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals from last year and can outrun his odds if he takes well to the fences.
1.55pm Wetherby
The French recruit ZAMBELLA looks like great value to me in this one. It’s a good race but her form in France entitles her to be a bit shorter than this in the betting.
2.10pm Ascot
My main selection here is CLONDAW CASTLE who was consistently good all lay season including an impressive 4th place in the Arkle. He’ll go close in this.
I’m also having a speculative each way on HATCHER at a big price who should have more improvement in him.
2.25pm Down Royal
ROAD TO RESPECT is my selection for a small win bet purely based on his price. Any of the top three could run well and win.
2.45pm Ascot
Course and distance winner JOLLY’S CRACKED IT can go well after a break and loves Ascot. He looks a great price against the young improving horses.
3.20pm Ascot
My selection on the podcast was Walk In The Mill who is now a non-runner so I will row in behind John and tip his nap of the day which is LARRY for the Gary Moore yard. The trainer has targeted this race for the last few years with notable success and Larry is an unexposed chaser who should go well.
3.40pm Wetherby
The final race of the ITV coverage is the big race of the day the Charlie Hall Chase. I am keen on ASO for Venetia Williams who despite being a 9 year old is actually quite lightly raced and performed very well in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham last season. There isn’t much of a difference between the 3 miles here and the 2 miles 5 furlongs at Cheltenham when you take the undulations into account so I don’t have big concerns about him staying the trip. He looks to be the value bet for me.
Excellent selection with doctor dex, well done
cheers
