Sail off with some winnings at York

We are spoilt for choice this weekend with Ascot, Newmarket, York and Chester just some of the courses on the go and there is even some good quality fare at Hamilton this evening.

I have four selections across the country that I think are good value for today.

1.45pm Ascot

I’m taking a chance here with ROYAL BIRTH who is  a massive 12lb lower on turf than he is on the all weather and whilst I appreciate that there are those horses which prefer the AW that’s just too much of a differential. Add to that the facts that Royal Birth has won this race before and is wearing first time blinkers as an 8 year old and it suggests to me that he has a huge chance of going close at big odds.

3.30pm Newmarket 

This is a tricky handicap but I thought that ACES was worth an each way punt at a big price. He is a course and distance winner who showed last time out that he can still win. He hasn’t been penalised for that and runs off a competitive mark with apprentice jockey Thomas Greatrex taking another 5lb off. Now a non-runner.

3.50pm York

SETTING SAIL looks like the bet of the day to me. He is a progressive lightly-raced 4 year old who will enjoy today’s conditions. His form this season is strong and can’t see him not being involved at the finish.

6.05pm Hamilton

I was surprised to see the prices available for HARD SOLUTION in this race. He is an in-form course and distance winner at a track where course form is really important and also has a top apprentice on board in Connor McGovern. I make him clear favourite in my book.
