LA BAGUE AU ROI (4.15) is the star attraction on a varied and interesting Perth midweek card.
Warren Greatrex’s mare was a top-class novice chaser a couple of seasons ago, winning four Graded races on the bounce, including the defeat of Topofthegame and Santini at Kempton on Boxing Day. She couldn’t find a path to the winner’s enclosure last season but still posted some excellent efforts in defeat and this looks an ideal starting point.
There are a few potent threats among her rivals, chiefly Dan Skelton’s Very First Time, a three-time winner last season before getting stuck in the mud when fifth in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter in March. Bafana Blue won five times for Maurice Barnes in 2019 and returned from a 274-day absence to chase home Coup De Pinceau over course and distance earlier this month. Amalfi Doug doesn’t know how to run a bad race at Scone, while Perth bumper winner Jarveys Plate is best caught fresh and will have been well tuned-up by Fergal O’Brien.
The O’Brien team have several chances on the eight-race programme, with PROPER TICKET (2.30) strongly fancied in the mares’ novice hurdle. She scored over this 2m 4f trip at Southwell almost three weeks ago and although raised 10lb by the assessor, conditional rider Liam Harrison takes off 7lb.
Global Harmony has undergone wind surgery since finishing second in a Doncaster bumper for the Skelton yard in January and rates a danger along with Olly Murphy’s Alpha Carinae, a winner of an all-weather bumper at Newcastle last winter.
Neil Mulholland will have high hopes HARBOUR FORCE (5.50) can supplement his course and distance success in July. The gelding was turned out six days later under a penalty at Market Rasen and wasn’t disgraced in fourth. Tim Easterby has been flying on the Flat and saddles Cilluirid, runner-up to Millie Of Mayo at Hexham eight days ago.
At Redcar, BRIGHT START (3.50) should appreciate the drop to ten furlongs. The Godolphin colt tried to make all over 1m 4f at Leicester, only to be collared by Prince Alex. Hayley Turner has a nice draw in stall four.

Price dropping all the time. Was 4th in this race last year and can run off the same mark today with jockey taking a valuable 5lbs off.
Lightly raced and had a prep run over hurdles to get rid of the cobwebs in prep for this race and I’m sure its been his target and will be ready for this.

Sometimes l feel this jumping races are fixed .Have seen a few times a leading horse of all the places falling on the final hurdle – Western Victory today what a shocker
it’s very easy to think racing is fixed, it can be very dirty, lots of things happen to even confirm this. al boum photo running out at the last is the dirtiest thing i’ve seen. but i’ve also seen a claimer, amelie glass i believe, ”mistake” the finish line, easily done i suppose but she had the race won then pulled the horse back so it lost, was strange. i’ve had a four figure treble be let down on a flat race, with 50 yards to go, winning, clear, the horse mistepped and the horse basically jumped off.
it’s a very hard sport to gauge for a punter, we dont know what’s going on and rely on luck just as much as judgement, that is why you have to bet money you can afford to lose and not see it as a get rich quick scheme, then even if it is fixed, it wont matter to you.

Jockeys have got getting horse to leave stalls slowly down to an art form. Also, placing horse at back with too much to do. Running on when race is over.
