It was a rough start to the flat season for me yesterday, with all runners running fairly flat. The Meydan runners were disappointing, with Suesa meeting trouble, and the earlier runner was off the bridle a few furlongs from the start.

Far from an amazing price, but THYME WHITE was a selection for me during the Cheltenham Festival. He was withdrawn due to the going, which got extremely soft in the opening first days. I thought he had a big chance in that race, so I'm sticking with him in this race, now that he has got the good ground which he appreciates.
He has to carry top weight in this, and gives away a lot of weight to the rest of the field, which won't make this easy. Despite that, I think he has the class to overwhelm this field and prove that he is a step above this, and is ready for better handicaps. Paul Nicholls clearly thought he was ready for the next step up, when entering him in the Grand Anual Grade 3, so this must be a stepping stone, before heading onto Class 1 races. This race offers good prize money, so it's no surprise to see Paul go for this, in his attempt to win the Trainers' Championship.

ART OF DIPLOMACY was a horse I tipped up when he ran last time out around a month ago at this course. He was off the bridle sooner than a lot of the others that day, but he stayed on well, and was unlucky to bump into one who was clearly well handicapped. Off an untouched mark, and in an easier race, accompanied with better ground, he should be difficult to beat today. Once again, the price available isn't amazing, but I still think he offers value at a price of over EVS, as he has the best form in the race, and comes into this in good form. The trainer, Dr Richard Newland has been in good form over the last fortnight, recording 5 winners from 17 runners.
Doncaster £1 placepot picks, if down after leg 2 then £4 quadpot.

Hermes Baie 9-4 (without l’automonie) NAP 🏇 SKYBET.
France’s top hurdlers here l’automonie is a winning machine at this distance and at 4-6 no point.
Hermes Baie and theleme have had a series of head to heads both winning a few.
Hermes Baie is 3/4 at this distance, he fell in the other.
Theleme won the recent clash but that was at the shorter 2 mile 1 distance.
