Saturday's selections saw the end to the good form of recent days. Ch'tibello was the better of the two, but looks in need of at least 3m these days. His jumping didn't help his chances, but he just looks slow and more of a stayer at this point in his career.

I put up NAKADAM last month when he was running at Hexham over one of their marathon trips of 4m, which is something which suits this horse down to a tee. I was actually very confident of a big run that day, and he was starting to creep through the field until he was unseated as he was hampered. This step back in trip raises a few questions, as I do think he is better over longer, but he has won over this C&D in the past, so clearly handles the track and has the speed for this shorter trip.
He didn't get dropped anything by the handicapper, which is a shame, but expected. Even without further help by the handicapper he still remains well-handicapped on older pieces of form, and the return of Lorcan Murtagh will aid his chances even more as he can take off a further 3lbs. Also, Lorcan gets on very well with this horse, having partnered him to all but two of his runs for this yard. The forecast rain which might make the ground turn to soft will be a benefit, as it'll put more emphasis on the stamina side of things, on what already is a stiff track. The way he was travelling through the race lto suggested he was in good form, and if anything, he'll be even fitter than he was from his race at Hexham as that was his first start in 143 days.
Trainer Barry Murtagh isn't a well known name in the world of horse racing, so we should be able to get decent odds on this lad. Barry delivered up a winner recently with Elixer doing the business at odds of 9/1. Even though there are a couple of interesting runners in this race like Tommie Beau who travels a long way, I think our selection will remain competitive from a lower weight.

Like I've said on more than one occasion, bumpers are not really my kind of race to get stuck into. They are quite dodgy, especially when you can't exactly weight up the form all that well, and unraced horses do end up winning a decent portion of the races, and at goods odds. Despite me saying this, I will taking a chance on a horse who should be decent odds. PASTURE BEACH caught my eye for the in-form yard of Lucinda Russell.
Lucinda has been very careful with her newest apprentice, Conner McCann. By that, I mean that she is picking and choosing horses that clearly have good chances for him to ride winners and for both parties to take full advantage of the 10lb claim he currently has. Conner has raced only 3x over jumps, but he has been in the places on every occasion, and that goes to show they place him on rides they believe will run well. Unfortunately, I/we have been on the receiving end of a winner by Conner McCann and Lucinda Russell, who combined together with Diamond State at the start of November where he won with ease and smashed my selection of Cousin Oscar. Since then, he has won on that horse again, earlier on this week. He has also has a ride in a bumper race, where he finished 2nd on a horse making their debut.
I'm hoping not a lot of punters will latch on this one and we can get a decent price, as this horse is a full brother to the well-regarded Mr Glass, who is trained by Paul Nicholls. Mr Glass appeared to be a smart prospect from his bumper days where he won 2/3 races in that sphere. Also, his other full sibling, Sunrise Ruby, was a good bumper horse winning 1/2 for Nicky Henderson. If this horse has anywhere near the same level of ability that his siblings had in bumpers, he comes into this race with a great chance, especially when you consider Conner takes off a valuable 10lbs.
