Racing tips: The Lightly raced Javert Allen should have plenty in hand on his handicap mark

I had two runners at Kelso for Sunday, but they've called it off at Midday on Saturday, which is frustrating as the write-ups were done, but it's good to see a course doing it nice and early so those who were planning on going aren't wasting their time.

Huntingdon 2:25 – Javert Allen 5/2 (1pt, WilliamHill)

A good turnout for a decent pot on a Sunday at Huntingdon, but with conditions being heavy I think the ones towards the bottom of the weights could be the better ones to be on. This race has a decent record for four-year-olds, and that's the route I've taken with Javert Allen.

This very lightly raced gelding of No Risk At All has made a nice start to his career with a win and two second-placed finishes. He won nicely on debut before finishing 2nd to Spirit D'Aunou who was an odds-on shot and has since won twice and was well-fancied for a Class 2 race at Cheltenham off a mark of 129. Javert Allen then made a nice return to racing at Ludlow when finishing 2nd to Moveit Like Minnie who has franked the form by landing a Class 3 race £14k pot at Huntingdon in great style, looking like a really progressive horse. The front two pulled 15L clear of the third, and the form in behind looked solid as the fifth went on to win nicely on his next start.

It's not a great surprise that this French-bred horse likes soft ground, as they all seem to like a testing surface, but also his smart half-brother, Gladiateur Allen seems best effective on a similar surface and was as highly rated as 136 and stays further than the 2m, which bodes well given the testing conditions. The yard is in great form at the moment, so I'm expecting a big run from a horse who clearly has more under the bonnet than his current mark of 116 says.
