Racing tips: The hat-trick looks to be on the cards for 8yo Count Otto

This is going out before all of my selections have run on Thursday, but I can't wait for Chepstow as they have been delayed due to a kitchen fire and flooding in the weighing room! At the time of writing the first horse has gone and won and the second ran a stinker.

Brighton 4:00 – Count Otto 6/1 (1pt EW)

Brighton isn't one of my favourite tracks to bet at, as it's a very niche course and I've not had much luck there, but I think Count Otto could be tough to peg back if he gets a clear run from stall 10 in this contest.

I didn't want to back him last time out at Windsor and I paid the price as he beat my selection who had a nightmare run through, but fair play to Count Otto he won with a bit in hand that day and landed his 2nd win in his last two races. He has gone up 3lbs for that race, which isn't too harsh and based on that I think he has a great chance of landing the hat-trick.

Connections must clearly think he is well handicapped as he has been entered in two big pot handicaps over the last week and was withdrawn on both occasions due to the ground, so they are clearly looking after him, but also they must think he is capable of winning those kind of races. This is a decent pot for the grade with the winner getting 10k, and I think Connections will be more than happy to win this and based on his recent form he comes into it with a great chance. He has never run at the course, which is a surprise considering he likes quirky undulating tracks like Epsom and Goodwood, so I have no doubts he'll handle it, it's just a matter of whether Marco Ghiani can get him into a good position and avoid trouble.

Newmarket 6:00 – Broadway Act 2/1 (1pt)

It's a bit of a mad race and not one I'd usually go with a bet in but I think Broadway Act could be a smart juvenile for team Appleby & Godolphin.

Charlie sends an £800,000 2yo to Haydock and that wasn't enough for William Buick to travel and ride him, and he has a good pedigree and must be a smart horse to be bought for that much at the breeze-ups, so for him to deny a ride on him to ride a couple of Appleby horses at Newmarket, one of them must be fairly special and I get the impression it could be this son of Too Darn Hot.

There's not too much to go off but Too Darn Hot has made a positive start to the Sire ranks, recording 8 wins already and a good proportion reaching RPRs in the high 80-90 which isn't a surprise given what an impressive horse he was a few years ago, especially as a juvenile. Not only is the Sire a good starting point, but the Dam is a daughter of Galileo, so there's class on both sides of the pedigree. There's speed and stamina, which is a perfect combination for a 2yo, especially over 7f at Newmarket as it will be testing, but he should have the speed and stamina to last out.

Charlie Appleby has a tremendous record with 2yos at Newmarket, and at the July course, he is 36 from 91 runners, which is a 40% SR, which speaks for itself. 2/1 looks like a fair enough price and I'll be having my money on him.
