Racing tips: Tackling 3m for the first time looks tailor made for Java Point

After a couple of days away from tipping, due to being ill, I'm back! Firstly, as always, a big thanks to Cairnzy for filling in, who managed to get a winner on Tuesday in Venturous winning at 2/1. Finger's crossed I can land a winner today, with a return to the jumps action.

Ludlow 2:30

On paper what might appear to be a tricky race, doesn't seem all that tricky in my opinion. A horse who seems to be flying under the radar a little is, WHATSDASTORY, trained by Dr Richard Newland.

This horse finished runner-up in this race a couple of years ago, but has since been sent over fences, where she has managed to win. However, her most latest run was below par, and either that run was enough to send her back over hurdles, or she's not been showing the same zest for the larger obstacles at home, as her trainer has been quoted saying: “we're sending her back over hurdles as her jumping has rather fallen apart over fences”. The fact they've gone back over hurdles isn't an issue for me, as she's on a good mark, and is a very capable horse over hurdles, as we saw in this race in particular in 2020. In the grand scheme of things, she is on a decent mark of 118, which has been untouched since her run in this race, and considering she's only raced four times over hurdles, there could be plenty more to come.

What is interesting about this race is the questions of most of the horses in this race, and the main question on the lips of punters is whether they will stay the trip, as they have either never tried 3m, or they've not convinced on previous attempts. What we do know about the selection is that she will stay this trip, and stay it well. She is a winner on this trip on heavy ground, so that puts away any stamina doubts.

I think she offers a great EW price, and I'd advise that kind of bet. For me, the favourite probably is the one they have to beat, but the stable form of Alan King is extremely off-putting, and the top weight she'll have to carry doesn't look ideal.

Ludlow 3:00

This race has been won by Head To The Stars for the last two years, so it's no surprise to see that horse going for the hat-trick in this race. Personally, I think that horse is too high in the handicap and at the age of 11, he'd have to run a career best to win this. My selection in the race is JAVA POINT, who has been ultra impressive every time I've watched him so far this season, and this new trip looks perfect for him.

It's fair to say that Tom George hasn't had the best of seasons, so the fact that this lad has ran with credit in the last three runs whilst his stable has been going through a bad patch, shows this horse has ability, and could still be ahead of his mark. Chasing was always going to be this lad's strong point, being a previous PTP winner. Also, whenever they decided to go up in trip to 3m they would see the best of him, in my opinion, and today is the day they go for it. He is clearly a strong stayer, you don't win a PTP on soft/heavy ground by 15L without being a strong stayer, so the fact it's taken connections so long to pursue this trip, is rather frustrating, but I'm hoping he can put in a good round of jumping and avoid trouble, as I think he will be tough to beat if accomplishing that.

If truth be told, I don't think this is a strong race. The main danger for me is the previous winner in the race, Head To The Stars. He has been in decent form this year, has won at this track and is obviously aimed at this race. For the rest, they've got questions to be answered. Obviously, Canelo is well treated on old form, but he's shown little for a long time, and the stable is bang out of form. The other two, I'm not sure this trip is what they want, and can be swerved.
