Racing tips: Silver Gunn will return to form now that he is fresh

Immensitude was given the type of ride I was expecting and said she'd get in the write-up. She was held up in last place, travelled nicely into the race and made her efforts down the outside where I thought she was going to come and swoop by, but she got to the quarters of the leaders and then didn't carry on. No excuses for that performance, she just wasn't good enough on the day.

Windsor 8:10 – Silver Gunn 9/2 (1pt Bet365)

Most of the horses coming into this race today are here to prove a point, other than Eklil who won last time out. However, I think you're best to ignore the most recent run of Silver Gunn and focus on the form of his third over today's C&D.

He was 3rd behind Peace Man who has since franked the form in great style by winning a good Class 3 handicap at Newmarket last week in taking style. He won at Windsor in convincing style and then won a tough race on paper in just as good style, so finishing a few lengths behind him doesn't seem a bad form line to follow, especially when you consider the runner-up, Paradias went on to win his next race and then finish 5th/13 in a 26k pot Class 2 Sandown handicap. Also, Andaleep, who was in fourth that day and 1.75L behind my selection Silver Gunn, went on to finish second on his next start and then won a couple of days ago by 3L. The form is literally bulletproof, and you might question why didn't this horse follow that run up with a win or a better run the time after. Well, his run after that third-placed effort was 6 days after, and chances are that the run came too soon as he was very underwhelming that day, and he is a horse who seems to do his best running when fresh, so I'm expecting him to bounce back to form today off a 2lb lower mark which is generous from the handicapper.

Ayr 3:45 – Thunder Roar 10/1 (0.5pt EW PaddyPower 5pl)

This is a tricky race, that goes without being said, but I do think Thunder Roar is still on the well-handicapped level.

Tony Coyle managed to get a win out of this horse on stable debut after obtaining him from Kevin Ryan. He seemed to have unlocked the potential with him straight away, finding the key to the lock which is soft ground. He is by Night Of Thunder so it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to say that he'd want soft ground, especially when his best run for Kevin Ryan came on debut on soft ground, so it seems a little strange that connections ran him over multiple trips such as 1m to 1m 3f on the AW, good ground and good to soft ground when he's clearly a sprinter who relishes soft ground, which is what Tony Coyle noticed instantly and got a win out of him at 14/1 over 7f at Ayr on soft ground.

Today's trip and better opposition make this much tougher than the race he managed to win just a week ago, but he is still very lightly raced, has never run over 6f and will get soft ground. He clearly has the stamina for slightly further, so will be staying on nicely, will love the ground and is the least exposed horse in the race, and when you consider his odds is 10/1 I think it's a no-brainer to have an EW bet on him. He might be tapped for speed in this race, but like I said, he will be staying on when others will be getting tired, and then it's just a matter of if he's got enough track to reel them back in.
