PTARMIGAN RIDGE (1.50) was a course and distance winner last September for James Fanshawe and has very solid credentials in the opener at Chester. The five-year-old has since joined Richard Hughes and Ptarmigan Ridge made a grand debut for the stable at Haydock when chasing home Safe Voyage on soft ground. Conditions should be ideal.
The SportPesa Chester Cup sees Austrian School deservedly marked up at the top of the market following his demolition job in the Queen's Cup at Musselburgh. That was over 1m 6f but Mark Johnston's stayer has every chance of seeing out today's extra four furlongs. At bigger odds I've had an each-way punt on the Willie Mullins-trained Whiskey Sour, a dual winner around the tight turns of Galway. His fourth in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham was another useful effort and stall seven is fine if Andrea Atzeni can hold his pitch in what is often a rough-house as riders jostle for position.
Mullins also sends over last season's Cesarewitch hero Low Sun but he is badly drawn. Cleonte is closely matched with Low Sun on Newmarket form and should go well along with Who Dares Wins, third to Magic Circle last year and fourth in 2017.
ADDEYBB (2.25) will relish underfoot conditions in the Huxley Stakes and last year's Lincoln winner was even more impressive the following month when landing the bet365 Mile at Sandown. He wasn't so captivating on the all-weather at Lingfield when third to Master Of The World but is a better horse on turf.
Forest Ranger won this Group 2 contest 12 months ago and made a fine return at Newmarket when chasing home Zabeel Prince. Matterhorn has been a revelation on artificial surfaces and hammered Wissahickon in the Betway Easter Classic at Lingfield. Whether he will be so electric on soft ground is anyone's guess.
INTERNATIONAL LAW (7.40) is 3lb better off with Fire Diamond, despite beating him more than a length over course and distance in early April, so it is slightly surprising to see him trading around 5-1 at Wolverhampton. Fire Diamond has since hosed up by five lengths at Southwell and could be on the upgrade, while Lothario has been in top form at Kempton.

Good 2nd to Jalmoud who won at Longchamp on Saturday in a good race which I watched while out watching the football. Its up against nearly all newcomers some of which sound useful on paper but with the run I think EVs is a good price for him
