Racing tips: Onemorefortheroad’s handicap mark gives him every chance of bouncing back to form

A couple of pathetic runs at Fakenham from my bets on Monday. Why on earth the money came in for Unspeakable I'll never know as he was backed into 7/2 from 9/1 and from a yard which likes to land a gamble, it's baffling that he was so poor. King Otis never really travelled, the jockey had to keep him up to his work and ensure he was still going forward, very poor.

Typical that the other Christian Williams horse he sent went and won despite not looking the best handicapped and probably running over a trip which doesn't suit, but it's swings and roundabouts.

Huntingdon 3:15 – Onemorefortheroad 7/1 (1pt EW WilliamHill)

If there's a horse in this race who is very well handicapped then it's got to be Onemorefortheroad.

My selection was once a smart hurdler for Neil King, reaching a rating of 137 at his peak, which saw him finish 4th in the Imperial Cup Grade 3 at Sandown, and then finished 3rd/8 in the Ayr Scottish Champion Hurdle off 136. Before that, he was enjoying a very productive season which included a Class 1 Listed win, a 2nd in a Grade 3 to Tritonic and a win over today's C&D in this exact race back in 2021.

He lost his way since his run in the Ayr Scottish Champion Hurdle, but there's reasons to believe he can boucne back to form. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago when I put up Lookaway at Cheltenham that Neil King had a very bad season last year, things weren't right and the stable was suffering, but the yard have been in much better form this year and I think that's a result of his horses running off much lower handicap marks than they should be on, due to the poor season they had last year. Onemorefortheroad is running off a mark of 124 which is 3lbs lower than when winning this 2 years ago and is much lower than when he was running competitive races in Class 1 events.

He is 2/2 at this track over hurdles, he is still only an 8yo so has plenty of time to bounce back to form and I think he has a great chance in this.

Lingfield 12:45 – Klitschko 7/4 (1pt)

Soft ground is still an unknown for Klitschko, but based on his movement I think he should be fine on this type of ground.

He has finished 2nd on soft ground before, but that wasn't a true showing of his ability. He was keen in his first two races for Alan King, so they clearly instructed Tom Cannon to hold him up, and let him settle with the first time hood and it worked, he was a lot more relaxed, but as a result of that the winner who had an easy lead was able to kick on and run out an easy winner. In hindsight, it was a decent effort for him to finish 2nd as he had to make up a lot of ground on a testing surface, but that race would have been crucial for his development. He still managed to record an RPR of 125 that day, so it was still a decent effort on the clock.

He managed to win last time out at Plumpton when justifying his place as the odds-on shot when narrowly edging out the runner-up. On face value it doesn't look great, but I thought he won with a bit in hand that day and it turns out the runner-up isn't a bad horse as he went on and won by 23L on his next start.

My main concern for Klitschko is the time off the track, but if he is ready then I think this is more than winnable race. Zambezi Fix is probably my idea of the main danger, he drops to a Class 4 for the first time ever, but he is susceptible to an improver and no other horses in this race on today's ground look particularly well-treated like Klitschko does.

Lingfield 1:20 – Oxygen 3/1 (1pt)

It's not going to be a great surprise if the money comes in for Oxygen, or whether this horse opens up at a short price as he has the profile of an improver from the Venetia Williams stable, and with how the stable is already producing the winners, the bookies will be running scared and the punters will be latching on.

This horse is back over fences for the first time since moving to Venetia's, his last start in France was over fences and he finished 2nd and recorded an RPR of 112 in the process. Similar to my recent winning tip Haut Folin from the same stable, they were both poor on their first season for Venetia, but at the same time they became well handicapped and Haut Folin managed to capitalise on that falling mark when transitioned back to Fences for the first time since France and I think the same will happen for Oxygen.

The yard are absolutely flying at the moment, and like I've said before, when Venetia gets soft ground, her horses just seem to turn on the boosters and her form goes up a level.

Lingfield 3:05 – Burrows Park 9/4 (1pt)

This is a quick turn around for Burrows Park, but in Venetia Williams we trust.

I mentioned this horse last week when he ran at Plumpton and I had a fancy in the race. I said how well-handicapped he was becoming, but felt that after a layoff and he might be susceptible to younger improving horses. However, I thought he ran a blinder with all things considered. In the back of my mind I thought that the 2m 4f trip at Plumpton was going to be on the short side, and it proved that, he was off the bridle a long way from home but full credit to the jockey and the horse, they battled on together and he eventually finished a decently close fourth.

Now he is back up in trip to 2m 7f and gets his testing ground which he clearly likes, I think he is a massive player in this race, even if it is a strongest calibre of race. He last won off a 9lb higher mark over today's distance on testing ground, so everything is pointing in the direction of a big run.
