It's been a tricky few weeks for myself, yesterday was shocking and everything which I seem to touch turns to rubbish with jockey's giving very questionable rides (Graham Lee to name yesterday's). It was nice to get a winner, but it was irrelevant on the whole with the other four losing. Today's racing looks quite good for a Tuesday, so hopefully you can watch a few races and enjoy.
Newbury 3:10
Trainer: Alan King
Jockey: David Probert
Form: 75666-
He'll have to prove his fitness on the back of a 152 day break, but there is definite potential with CARAMELISED and a mark of 73 is on the low side of what this horse could become. I think we could be talking a high 80s, maybe low 90s handicapper with this horse at some point during the season so the mark of 73 is low if my expectation are correct. He might need the run, but I'll be giving him a chance on seasonal debut that he is ready for a trainer who is in good form and David Probert doing the steering is not a negative.
His latest on run the flat has a 6 next to the form line but he shaped better than the figure suggests. He was held up off the pace at Wolverhampton, which can often be a negative on the AW tracks as they are tight and the front runners can get away. He didn't get the best of passages through the field but did stick to his work and finished 3L behind the winner. The form of that race has worked out quite well with many horses winning since, none other than the winner who went on to win two more times and finish runner-up twice as well.
My main concern is the ground, as the weather forecast is suggesting a few millimetres of rain. He isn't proven on this ground, other than a run in a tough race which was behind Wink Of An Eye where he didn't shape too badly over a trip which is too short for him. That came on Good To Soft, and he seemed to handle it okay. He is currently at an EW price if you're into that, and I think he could run a big race.
Leicester 2:30
Trainer: David Evans
Jockey: George Downing
Form: 4-5389
This kind of track seems to bring the best out of DORA PENNY so the recent form doesn't put me off now she is returning to Leicester where she has won once before as well as running well twice. She has dropped down the handicap since her wins, and a mark of 69 makes her well handicapped. She is a free going horse, so the lack of pace does concern me a little but the odds on offer make her worth a chance. This is a weak race in comparison to what she has raced against in the past, and now she is at her stomping ground, she could spring a little surprise in this. The undulating tracks seem to play to her strength as she has won at Newmarket which is a similar track to Leicester. Not all horses adapt to tracks like this, so knowing she handles it extremely well is a big positive.
Brighton 2:20
Trainer: Stuart Williams
Jockey: Lorenzo Atzori (7)
Form: 653573
Though not the force of old, SHAMSHON is still more than capable of winning races at the age of 11. Brighton is a track he runs very well at, and if he runs anywhere near the level of last time at Newmarket, he could be extremely tough to beat. He is obviously well handicapped on old form, but that's fairly irrelavant as he is never going to get much better than what his current mark is. However, the 7lb claimer is a huge positive as it does mean he is running off a mark of 51. He has ran well off marks in the 60s here last year, and this doesn't look the most competitive race, so the 100/30 odds available seem more than fair.
