MAMDOOD ((4.05) should appreciate a rise in trip in the amateur riders' handicap at Southwell.
He disappointed odds-on punters at Wolverhampton last week but this more galloping track will play to his strengths. Madmood seemed to appreciate the long straight when scoring at Newcastle and is still attractively weighed.
17:10 Kempton – FIRST RECEIVER 2/1 1.5pt win
This horse has only been seen one when 3rd back in July when 1.25l behind a 105 rated Class 1 2nd. Although limited, his paper form is excellent. Plenty of winners have come from it including a Class 1 winner.
In terms of breeding, his father was undefeated at the same age and won 8 of 11 races. His sire won major races over 7f and 1m2 whilst his half siblings have won Classics over today’s trip, including the 2000 Guineas.
Louis Steward wins a lot for the trainer in the Queen’s silks and he looks well worthy of a bet.
20:10 Kempton – TRALEE HILLS 6/1 0.5pt e/w 3 places 1/5 odds
I was on this horse when 33/1 lto. Hayley Turner had him rear and he moved through the field nicely to claim 3rd. This is an apprentice race and he we have a pretty decent one on board. 1lb below his last win, I’m hopeful he can continue making progress over the same C&D.
16:40 Kempton – PURPLE PADDY 10/3 0.5pt win & FOUR MILE BRIDGE 5/1 0.5pt e/w 4 places 1/5 odds
On Hcap debut 1 year ago, this horse has fallen 22lbs in the ratings, with the claimer he is now effectively rated 50, his best results was over this C&D when 3rd rated 70, he carried a similar weight when 0.5l behind Spirit Warning a C3 winner off 89 since whilst the winner, a couple of lenghts ahead has been performing well in C2s… I can’t read too much into that given we have failed so many times at this level already. I have greatly reduced the stake as I don’t recognise this combo and an overly prosperous one.
PURPLE PADDY is a lto C&D winner and with the assistance of a very good 7lb claimer, he will actually be running off a 3lb lower rating, paper form is rarely straightforward but with all being well I am more than happy to back two in this race.
14:30 Southell – FINAL LEGACY 15/2 0.5pts ew 3 places 1/5 odds
Derek Shaw is someone who used to bang in big priced winnersfor me on the AW during the winter. He had a huge 66/1 yday in the silks I prefer to follow him in. He has some big priced outsiders today too, Lewis Edmunds seems to be taking his best rides.
This horse was a 100/1 4th on his 2nd hcap start, it was over C&D, 0.5l behind QAARAAT who won a few days ago and 1 place in front of Skeetah who had won previously.
15:30 Southell – MEMORY HILL 12/1 0.25pts ew top 3 1/4
There is no more in-form jockey than Ben Curtis, 3 winners yesterday and two 2nds and another treble on Nov 1st. None of his runners look overly obvious but he has a couple for P D Evans who does well at the track. MEMORY HILL makes a 2nd start upped a furlong and considering only 2 places, it’ss a risky ew bet I’ll chance.
14:00 Southell – SHELLEBEAU 20/1 4 places 1/5 odds 0.25pt ew
I mentioned this trainer running horses in these silks when Rossa Ryan is on board. Since entering handicaps the horse hasn’t done anything but she’s rated 12lbs lower and makes her debut on a new surface. The big price reflects her chances but the small stake is just about worth it for interest.
FWIW’s
ARCHIE WATSON has probably been the best servant to this page and he’s started to send out a few winners again recently getting two and a 2nd yesterday. He only has PERCY PROSECCO tomorrow and I’ve been on him a few times. Sadly he’s got a hefty rise and a class rise to contend with. The trainer sends 5 out on Wednesday and will be worth a look then.
Breeding is something I haven’t spent an entirety of time on but it is something I am trying to incorporate a little more. ASTROZONE (1500 Southell) looks to be running over too sharp a distance but is making his hcap debut off a lenient mark.
Melbourne cup.
Hunting horn 40-1 Ew hills (paying 6 places)
Same horse 7.8-1 place only top 5 finish on Betfair Exchange.
Just for interest small stake, never ran this far before, which makes it odd Aiden o Brien runs him in this ?
Won a group 2 prep race in Australia last week beating downdraft who is 16-1 today !!.
