We probably got a little lucky with Honneur D'Ajonc winning at Hereford due to a couple of fallers, but there have been times when our horse has fallen when in contention on winning, so it's swings and roundabouts.
They were a good way out when the horses fell. I've not been on social media since the race so I'm not sure about the health of the jockeys/horses, so fingers crossed that they are all okay and well. I thought it was a good display from the selection who had to show he stayed the trip as he was headed and then he had to battle back to get the win.
Newcastle 2:35
Though there's a lot of racing on today for a Tuesday, only one horse caught my eye and the price has pretty much gone on him but I'll still give him a play.
CASTLE RUSHEN was available at around 3/1 earlier yesterday, so it's frustrating to see him now sitting at around 15/8, but this is the game these days with many people ruining the early prices. However, I do think he will appreciate today's step up in trip, similar to yesterday's selection as he was staying on in eyecatching style when finishing as runner-up at Newcastle 24 days ago. The trip of 2m 4f was evidently too short and Brian Hughes didn't give him a hard time until he realised that he might have a chance of winning in the final furlong, which is when he picked up his whip and used it, but the ground he made up between the last 2-3 fences was quite remarkable and it screamed to me like a horse who requires 3m, so seeing him over the extended 2m 7f is a huge positive.
He is a horse whose connections have clearly felt has had plenty of ability as they've not shied away from putting him in the deep end. Towards the back end of his hurdles career, he was pitched in Grade 2 company, which saw him finish a distant 3rd behind My Drogo and then he finished 2nd in a Class 1 Listed race behind Threeunderthrufive. To finish a remote 2nd and 3rd behind those horses isn't discouraging as they have both gone on to be good horses. My Drogo has been hindered by injuries but the latter has become a good-level chaser with a great SR.
A couple of positives to note are he clearly handles the track and seems to love the soft ground. Newcastle isn't expecting any further rain, so the track will dry out, but that might make it tacky and it will require plenty of stamina to get around.
This is a good race for a Tuesday handicap and you can give most of them a chance of winning, which is why 15/8 isn't ideal, but I'm confident in this new distance bringing out the improvement required to get the win.

Could be a typical outsider of 3 race, there again it might not 😆😆

From now on I think I’m going to completely dodge Brian Hughes.
I am sick to death of him riding the way he does. He always seems cool, but I swear his horses for the most of the time jump like rubbish, he rarely fires a horse at a fence and as a result they always get in close. This is probably why he gets beat so often on a horse when his horse jumps the last fence like crap.
He’s just done the same thing on today’s selection. For me, he has to be most overrated jockey in the UK, whether he’s a champion jockey or not. I think he’s Champion because he gets on the best horse in most races in the North, and doesn’t actually have to do much for 80% of the time.
I could be talking complete nonsense to some of you, but I can’t remember him giving a horse I’ve backed a good ride, in a very long time.
Give me a Sam Twiston-Davies over him anyday of the week.
You never see the top trainers falling over themselves to hire him do you
He is a champion in name only due to saturation, farming small low grade meetings on midweek days mostly.
Quite often he misses Cheltenham as he prefers getting 2 or 3 freebie winners at Hexham and the like.
Says everything about him.
MC coy won by saturation also, but he was a top level jockey who always turned up in races of all shapes and sizes and often won races due to him and not the horse, how many times does Hughes win the race for the horse ??
I forgot to mention the fact he dodges Cheltenham.
I agree with what you said, Elvis.

Never clicked Hughes never went to Cheltenham! Says it all really!
Same as last night with same 4 meetings(3 worth betting on) available that ain’t great but managed some nice winners last night hand makes selections easier at least.

GL rest of the day!
🇺🇸 Couldn’t get Asheicken in my Canadian and has went EVS now SP 🤷♂️
Not sure how long they left the 5/1 up but good 20 mins there I seen and If you managed to get that hopefully it ends up feeling like stealing money from them! 😊
It’s not a “banker” of course as there’s no such thing and tracks likely sloppy but Asheicken won’t mind hence why he’s left in.
More than likely be hit with a R4 although Skybet didn’t last time this happened,I got what it said from them with £12 on a 3/1 but of course Paddy Power might and probably are different but at 5/1 if it wins which is a big possibility they can hit me with the rule!
What a c@ck of a jockey ye get out to a level start and sit 10 lengths back to finish at a rate of knots but FAR to late?
Well at 5/1 it was worth a bet as I wouldn’t have touched 4/9 with found money.
Onwards…
Turf Paradise -R5…Kind Gallant. 4/1.
Quarter horse here (built for speed unlike thoroughbreds) and won by 2 1/2 lengths last time out over 4f this is only an extra 1/2 furlong and has won up to 5F soo hopefully or rather he really should get out wuick and get away and hat’s that!?
