Yesterday was a decent return from the thread's selections. Blue Lord was a winner, a fortunate winner at that, but a winner nonetheless. Rivier D'Etel would have definitely have won that with a clean jump at the last, but luckily for us she didn't. Janidil returned a little bit of profit in the Irish Gold Cup by finishing in the places, after running a good race, and proving he does stay the 3m, but probably not at the very top level.
Musselburgh 2:40
I'm not normally a big fan of backing horses in the ‘Pertemps Qualifiers' as if you finish in the top 6, you are qualified for the race at Cheltenham, but that depends on whether you're high enough rated to fill the race. Which generally means horses will try their best to fill the places so they qualify, but don't win so their handicap mark either remains untouched or goes down a few lbs. The difference for my selection in this race is that if the plan is to go to Cheltenham, he'll have to win this race, and win well as he currently has no chance of getting into the race off his current mark of 122.
THE BIG GALLOPER is my sole selection for Sunday, and there are reasons to believe that he can bounce back to form today and run a big race. Charles Byrnes is a crafty little trainer, who has a reputation for landing gambles, and when he sends his horses across the Irish sea, they need to be treated with plenty of respect. There is no chance that he is sending this lad over for the fun of it, and they will be going for the win for the plan of potentially going to Cheltenham. The return to hurdles, and the return to this trip looks a positive as he clearly didn't appreciate his time over fences, and his stamina looks suited for this trip. He is on a good mark, as he was in the midst of running a very nice race at Cheltenham back in 2019 off this mark, but met trouble in running, and wasn't fast enough to make up the ground as the winner had already set sail. He stayed on well that day up the Cheltenham hill which suggested the 3m trip is what he will appreciate. That race was obviously a few years ago, and his form hasn't been the same level since, but he hasn't really settled over fences, and his return to hurdles wasn't as bad as what it looks on paper. That would've blown away the cobwebs, and was over a trip far too short. The ground today will be fine, as they are expecting a few mm of rain, which should make it at least Good to Soft at the very least, if it arrives.
He managed to get into this race off bottom weight, carrying 10st 3lbs, and gets the steering done by Adam Wedge, who has ridden a winner for Charles Brynes before.
At the time of writing you can get around 7/1, which is worth an EW punt.
I thought Impulsive One was the one to beat in the Juvenile race at Musselburgh earlier in the card, but when I saw the weather forecast and the potential soft ground, it put me off. IF the rain doesn't come, and the ground remains ‘Good', he is a player in my opinion.
1.05 Eric Bloodaxe ew 👎
2.45 Rightplacerighttime placed 👍
3.15 I’m still trying to work out how a handicapper won the Irish gold Cup. Puppy Power seemed to get a tune out of Minella Indo so will be on him for the GC now.
3.50 A Wave of the Sea WON 8/1 👍
4.25 Sandor Clegane w/o 11/4 WON 👍(Facile Vega is some animal)
All in all a good day. Plenty of nice winners on yesterday’s thread so well done all. Nice to see.

Party Central is a worthy fav. Its not often you see a listed bumper winner start off in h’caps off 121 and looks chucked in. But at 5/2 in a competitive field like this the bookies aren’t giving much away, so at more attractive odds I’ve had an ew play on Banntown Girl at 14/1 with 5 places with pp. She has a bit to find with the fav (beaten 5L but 6lbs better off ) but has never been out of the frame when Danny Mullins has been onboard and he’s on again today.

Really looking forward to seeing Galopin Des Champs he looks a real star in the making and is as low as 8/1 for the GC in 2023.
However he’s not a betting proposition and at 14/1 ew I like Beacon Edge. This is his best trip. He’s beaten Fury Road every time they’ve met except when falling and I think he will be GDC’s main threat, if he has one at all.

This is a funny one with the 3 at the head of the market all with questions to answer. If CPS is back to his best then it’s no contest but he’s been suffering with hamstring problems and was 5th of 5 lto.
Both Nicholls and HDB yards are in shocking form and the other 2 are out of their depth.
Cashback though is interesting. He never tried a Yard when running against Energumene earlier (worth a look) and then came out and beat Classic Getaway by 8L over hurdles. Not sure if Willie is plotting something with this horse but I’ll be keeping one eye on how he’s ridden in this race back over fences.
No bet for me.

As I said on Fridays thread, the pattern with these h’caps at this meeting is to have a low weight and Birchdale gets in here off bottom weight. He didn’t see out 3m last time but back down in distance should have every chance.

Is Honeysuckle vulnerable ?
Surely not

Sir Gerhard should be winning this but its how well he wins will be the big question.
I’m pretty sure Henderson will send both his horses to the Supreme, but I’d be amazed if Willie did the same.
If SG wins decisively, then surely he will go Supreme and Dysart Dynamo will go Ballymore.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Wide open race but once again have focused on the lower end of the weights.
Wouldn’t You Agree 16/1 ew 6 places was 3rd lto at listowel over 2m. He had Eskylane who won a valuable h’cap nto, 2L behind, and because of that meets him on 10lbs better terms and Eskylane is lower in the market which just doesn’t make sense to me.

Pink in the Park was impressive on her debut but didn’t beat much but I’d be surprised if she can’t build on that run and take this fairly comfortably.
BOL
DC Mullins looks like hes got another incredible crop of bumper horses this year 4 or 5 look like they are out of the top drawer.
All about GDC for me I want him to hack up so he will go for the 2mile 4 at Cheltenham where I have him at 33s to out jump Bob Olinger.
Cracking days racing GL
Deb
More and more talk that that will be the route he goes. Bookies have reacted to that notably pp. Ruby came out and said it and he’s their ambassador.
Not worth taking prices now but that 33s looks like money well spent.
Fingers crossed for you 🤞
Great to have your insights DC. I learn a lot reading your posts. Good luck today.
Yeh I remember the old RSA as a bit of a plodders race hard race on Novices hopefully he has to much speed for that race and goes shorter.
Pretty sure today will tell us either way 🤞🤞

It’s really hard to know. Head tells me he goes RSA (think I’ll always call it that).
Would win both though imo so who knows what Willie’s plan is.
Ground will probably have alot to do with it DC pretty sure He wont send him 3m on Cheltenham heavy ground well I keep telling myself all these things.
Hes basically evens now for both with any bookies going NRNB
Hopefully some of you decided to back Impulsive One after what I mentioned at the bottom of my piece.
He’s absolutely bolted up.
Going to by a Lisa stansfield album with the proceeds , cheers 👍
