I can't comment on yesterday's runners as I'm out early on Saturday, so this will be prepped before any have run. But touching on today's racing, my word, we have a fair few cards for a Sunday, but they stink! nothing springs out off the page as a bet, so I've gone for one in France.

Auteuil 2:50 – Il Est Francais

Unfortunately, the odds haven't come out for this race, so finger's crossed this price for IL EST FRANCAIS is decent enough to have a bet, as he is the only horse that I think has a cracking chance of grabbing us a win.

I stuck this lad up when he last run in a Grade 1, he was put up at bigger odds than his finishing odds of 1/2, and he won in great style that day. He was under the supervision of Tom George, but is now being trained by Tom's son, Noel. Chances are that Noel has always been training him for his runs in France, but for some reason they've kept Tom on the name. This horse has been ultra-impressive from the getgo, which has seen him win all of his hurdle races (4 from 4) and winning in great style each time. Arguably, this race is his toughest assingment as he takes on another good French horse, Hermes Baie, but that horse will have to probably put in a career-best to beat Il Est Francais when you take into the fact that he is carrying 9lbs more.

Hermes Baie has some good pieces of form, including a win over Klassical Dream, but that was over 3m and I think his best runs have come over longer than today's trip, so will have to show a fair bit more if he was to win this.

I'm not one for backing horses too short, but if Il Est Francais is priced up at around EVS or slightly under, I think that will definitely be seen as a value bet. Short priced horses isn't for everyone, but you can put them in your Sunday double/treble/accumulator. I personally see it being very difficult to beat this horse today.

    Hi All,
Just had a nasty couple of weeks but felling better now and if I’m a good boy and do as the doctors tell me I should be fine.
But just incase things go south for Cheltenham I thought I’d put up all my selections now as I think we’re fairly sure at this stage as to who runs where now.
The weather looks like its going to remain fairly dry and I believe they are already watering so I’d expect gd/sft on Day 1 but can always change as we know from last year.

I’ll break it down into non-h’cap first and h’caps 2nd

    Non – h’caps

    Supreme – Marine Nationale
    Arkle – Jonbon
    Champion Hurdle – Constitution Hill
    Mares Hurdle – Brandy Love
National Hunt Chase – Gaillard Du Mesnil

    Ballymore – Impaire Et Passe
    BANC – Gerri Colombe NAP
    Champion Chase – Edwardstone
    Cross Country – Galvin
    Bumper – Chapeau De Soleil

    Turners – Banbridge
    Ryanair – Shishkin
    Stayers – Marie’s Rock
    Mares Novice – Magical Zoe

    Triumph – Blood Destiny
    Albert Bartlett – Hiddenvalley Lake
    Gold Cup – GDC
Mares Chase – Allegorie De Vassy
    Hunters – Vaucelet

    H’caps

    Ultima – Lord Accord
Boodles – still don’t know wait for the day of the race
    Coral Cup – HMS Seahorse
Grand Annual – Andy Dufresne NB
Pertemps – Salvador Ziggy/ Perceval Legallois
Plate – Frero Banbou / Fastorslow
    Kim Muir – Amerite
    County – Sharjah/ Colonel Mustard
Martin Pipe – Riaan/ Favori de Champdou

If and when I have time I’ll put up my cases for the handicap selections.

Would also be good if a few more put there selections up and we can compare and discuss as the racing for the week ahead is pretty dull to put it mildly

Remember you tipped Champeau De Sollel for the ‘Champion Bumper’ a good month or maybe 2 ago at 7/1?
I had won a few £s so took it as I had zero antepost on then.

Now 9/1 and there was no Ew but pretty sure it’s NRNB but what do you think of his chances now? 👍 – 👎

      Cheers

      thanks for the efforts DC.

if things do get worse, perhaps seek out GCMaf, it wont be easy to get a hold of, but it is an avenue i would exhaust fully if i had cancer. it was by all means, a working, viable cancer cure, i mean of course not to the UK MHRA, who on it’s board, sits some ex-big pharma nasties, who have absolutely crushed it for obvious reasons but worth a google (or a yandex). the UK govt. went so far as to extradite two people behind it to french prisons, illegally, david noakes and lyn thyer, an interesting story, bought to us, by the LEGEND, who is sadly no longer with us, IAN R CRANE, who has a legendary youtube channel. youtube.com/user/ianrcrane

      all the best.

I am praying that Chapeau De Soleil gets in to the Bumper .I don’t know how many needs to come out for him to get in now .I thought Mullins would have given him another race in which he would have qualified .
DC Have you any idea how many needs to come out . I do know Fun Fun Fun is a NR for Mullins now and he was well fancied to run a big race .

I don’t think Fun Fun Fun was ever going to Cheltenham as he’s bred and owned by Patrick and id say Aintree was the plan all along as Patrick would want to be onboard.
The only qualifying required is that the horse must have finished in the first 4 in a NHF race. I’m not quite sure how they whittle the field down but I’d be amazed if CDS didn’t run as its the reason they bought the horse according to Patrick.

      Deb2000 2 years ago

It goes by wins & form so even if CDS is low down Mullins wont enter some of his lesser fancied runners with wins to get him in every chance Patrick will ride him as he wont ride the fav.

deb you’re a fountain of knowledge and i am looking forward to your big festival picks, a lady who doesnt say much but sees all, i do recall a 33/1 pick from her last or the year before that.

with cheltenham getting closer, could you confirm to the thread you will be offering up some fancies given how studiously you reside over horse racing.

    Ultima Lord Accord

Obviously a hugely competitive race which has favoured English runners .
Stats and trends play a big part in my selections and the best site to look at is Gaultstats which covers pretty much everything you would need to know..
Lord Accord ticks a lot of trend boxes and was also a winner over C&D last Oct. Whilst that might not have been the strongest of races I was pleased the way he ran having been prominent throughout (a big plus in a race like this) but he then pulled away up the hill.
He then ran in the Ladbroke chase which probably came too soon but 4 of the last 9 ultima winners ran in this race.
He’s also taken the same route as 2 previous winners by running in the Cleeve Hurdle
He will be towards the bottom of the weights off 137 but should get in no problem.

    • Avatar of theplug
      theplug 2 years ago

DC agree with you 100% about the English having a good record in this race.
What do you think of Langer Dan for the Martin Pipe racing off a mark of 137
Last year. He was a big plot for that race i was over there for the festival only to see him brought down at the 2 hurdle big gamble on him that day .He then went to Aintree and won off the same mark.
Haven’t won a race since .Reached a mark of 145 ,now back down to a mark of 141 after going down at the Cheltenham meeting in January.

    • Avatar of Double carpet
      double carpet 2 years ago

He’s obviously being plotted once again by Skelton and you’d have to say he’s achieved what he wanted by getting 141.
Won’t be far away off that mark and I’ll probably have something on him on the day.
Also with Novices now needing 4 runs to qualify there’s no GDC or State man’s lurking this year.

    Coral Cup HMS Seahorse

Was 4th in last year’s Boodles beaten 3 1/2L by both Brazil and Gaelic Warrior. With the latter now rated 153 a mark of 143 looks very workable as he only got 1lb from GW in the Boodles.
He won a competitive h’cap quite cosily in jan and has been put away so arrives fresh for this race.
Obviously another very competitive race and slightly worried with him being fav as they don’t win this race.
Lots of money for Comprond who was 4th last year but his form this year has been dreadful and if he were to pull it off there would be a fair enquiry about it I would have thought.
