A frustrating day yesterday with two runner-up finishes. Both of the selections were slightly unlucky, but these things happen in horse racing. Today I've gone for a mixture of French and Irish racing, hopefully some better luck today.
Curragh 2:55
I'm sure the British raiders will be popular in the betting for this race, as in recent years their sprinters have been a level above the Irish. Despite this, I will be siding with an Irish runner, and one who looks to be progressing nicely. MOONEISTA has had a fantastic season and is a wonderful flag-bearer for Jack W Davison who is still relatively new to the training ranks.
Mooneista started the season as a 90 rated Filly who was comfortably beaten when she was tried in Class 1 company as a juvenile. She has managed to climb the ranks, going close in handicaps, to winning a Listed race, narrowly beaten in a Group 3, to winning a Group 2. This is her second time she will be racing in a Group 1, but the conditions are totally different from her first attempt. She went to Royal Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup, where she finished 6th. However, that was over 6f and on heavy ground, and even though she went close the time before that over 6f on soft ground, I don't think that combination of conditions is what she relishes. I think a stiff 5f which is ran at a quick tempo is what she needs, and there is a strong possibility that she will get those conditions in this race.
Strong Johnson is pitched into the deep end in this race, and he is definitely one of the pace angles. He is not good enough to win this race, but his best form has come when he races from the front. Frenetic was a bit of a loon as a 2yo, and I mean that in the way she was just full of pace and she could only run from the front. They have tried racing her a little different this year, but it doesn't seem to suit, so I expect her to be up with the pace. Winter Power is the favourite, and I don't think she will definitely set the pace, but SDS will have her on the heels of the leaders. With those horses being in the line-up you'd like to think a good pace will be set. In my opinion, that will suit Mooneista as she is a strong traveller, but she seems to stay the trip out very well.
Obviously the selection will need to improve again to win this, but that isn't out of the equation as she is still a 3yo, and she has got better as the season has gone on.

This doesn't appear to be one of the best Moyglare Stud Stakes renewals in recent years, but a horse who falls under the category of ‘Could be anything' is definitely HOMELESS SONGS.
This filly has only raced the once, but she was very impressive on that sole outing. The way she devoured the ground at Leopardstown signaled to me that this filly could be top drawer. She convincingly beat Agartha that day, and even though there has been 66 days since they met, and Agartha has won twice since, I can't see how she reverses the form with Homeless Songs.
You could say it's worrying that we've only seen Homeless Songs just the once so far this season, and there could've been problems. I disagree, I think they've looked after this filly as they know she could be special. I think that this race has been the plan for a very long time, and the reason I believe that is because the owners of the horse, sponsor this race and have done for a long time and haven't had a winner in this race as far as I can find, and that is at least 1980. They must be desperate to win this race, and they must believe that filly has what it takes.
Her pedigree is very good, obviously being a home bred horse, out of a Moyglare Dam (Joailliere), who was 103 rated at her highest, and by Frankel. She is definitely bred to be a seriously top horse, who should stay further as a 3yo. Today is the day we find out how good she is.
Longchamp 3:30
BROOME is a talented horse, but probably doesn't get the credit he deserves as he doesn't have the sexy profile that a lot of the Aidan O'Brien horses generally have.
If you look throughout his CV, other than a couple of blips, his main positive is that he is consistent and often very reliable, and you know what you get from him. He is a Group 1 winner, but you wouldn't say that he is an elite level horse, but he will win those weak Group 1's and Group 2's like today. This doesn't appear to be all that strong, especially now with Wonderful Tonight not running, due to being retired in the last couple of days from an injury. Skalleti will be popular as he is a likeable horse, but this will be his first time running over this trip, and even though he stays 10f very well, it's a totally different ball game over 12f, and you would've thought that they would've tried this trip earlier in his career, than now as he is a 6yo. The Japanese runner, Deep Bond, is an interesting runner, but has done most of his running over longer trips, and will probably be better over 14f – 16f, which leaves me with Broome who could pick up the pieces on conditions which will be best suited to him.

This is a really poor race and they won’t run to form as class 6 horses aren’t renowned for consistency are they 🦓.

Kraken power in the last at musselburgh can hardly get 6 furlongs and has never ran beyond 7 furlongs.
Today it runs over 1 mile 7 🥺.
It’s surely either a pace maker for stablemate ravensCraig castle or a clerical error.
Obviously I’m not backing it at 25-1, but If wins I will be smelling rats🐀.
