GLORIOUS GOODWOOD continues on Friday with Day 4 but it’s off to Thirsk I go for my Nap.
Its not surprising Creek Walk drops in distance here but it is surprising he drops to 5f. However, he should have too much class for these at any distance, it’s a weak race and Creek Walk has the best form with trainer Bin Suroor also having a good record at this course.
Next up is Newmarket for two selections and like my Nap these two are Godolphin horses. At 7pm we have GAME STARTER and by Dubawi a bit of cut in the ground won’t worry him. He has good form and the scope for the most improvement out of these.
An hour later it’s Godolphin again and a horse making his debut, MOUNTAIN HUNTER, stands out on breeding. I am surprised to see him over a mile as I thought he would have been better over shorter but he does have a positive jockey booking in De Sousa.
At 7:40 we head to Bath and to a trainer who is making a name for himself, the Olly Murphy trained BANFF should be hard to beat here. After winning at Newcastle with a mark of 47 he turns up at Bath on a mark of 53 but with a 7lb claimer onboard, so he is effectively running from a 1lb lower mark than Newcastle, should also love the ground.
I'm now 1.5pts down for August after no joy with my two Thursday picks. Well done to all winners and let's hear your tips and chat.

Johnb's Antepost Tips
1000 Guineas update
Johnb says: “There is no better feeling than seeing your antepost tips getting shorter & shorter and judging by connections' thoughts the 8-1 still looks big, I went in again at 14-1 and have gone in again at 8-1.”

Hi denningl, I’m not sexist but can you change your avator?
Apologies If I have broken avator convention.

Thirsk 4.30
Ingelby Mackenzie

Battaash was my selection today but did not back as I’ve sat out of Goodwood, the ground was concerning but it absolutely smashed it.
Been really impressed the last three runs.
Two godolhpin evening selections

Well done johnb, Duncan and anyone else with winners today
Well done johnb, Duncan and anyone else with winners today
Drifted in the market and still comes up trumps.
ON THE DOUBLE.
8.30 Newmarket
Firefright
15/8
Johnb In your opinion ,Have we seen a guineas (Derby) winner this week ,Expert Eye ? Now 7/2 from 5/1 surely too short ,,but as I said the other day Stoute thinks the world of him .
I am happy to stay clear of Expert Eye as I am not convinced
Two winners and two non-runners which is disapointing as the two non-runners were my strongest two today
10.61pts profit friday
August 9.11pts up
Saturdays Tips
Goodwood
1:50
Pettochside 12/1 NAP/NB skybet (1/5 odds 1-2-3-4-5-6 double stake 1pt eachway)
Newmarket
2:05
Pleasant Surprise 11/2 William hill
Double 77/1 William hill
Saturday at Goodwood is Stewards Cup Day but it’s in the first race that my joint NAP/NB runs, Pettochside ran here only 4 days ago when he finished 6th of 15 but that was on good ground over five furlongs, on Saturday it is soft ground and six furlongs, to put that into context Pettochside has run twice before at Goodwood on soft ground over six furlongs and he won both times, when he has run on soft ground over six furlongs anywhere he is 4 wins from 5 runs with his only defeat was a 3rd of 11 beaten 1 1/4 lengths
He is a pretty reliable horse with all his finishing positions since May 2016 as follows 421332321573214326
His Goodwood form only reads 28112132326
Hector Crouch has only ridden once for trainer John Bridger and won
Pettochside with what looks everything in his favour is a very confident selection,
My second selection comes just 15 minutes later at Newmarket in another big field, Pleasant Surprise has Jamie Spencer onboard and although I am not a fan it is significant that Spencer misses Goodwood to come here, it is also worth noting that second favourite Isabel De Urbina was beaten by the Luca Cumani trained God Given so Cumani knows exactly what is needed here, I liked her win last time out and she can kick on from that now
Pleasant Surprise @ 2.5 ,3 places ,don’t trust the jockey enough ,hope it wins GL.
