Yesterday was a very good day, and one of the best in recent times as three of the four selections won, and won well. Hopefully the good run can continue…
Warwick 1:40
Today's racing doesn't really catch the eye, and even though there's a few race cards to dissect, only one runner looked interesting to me, and that is JUNIPER. This lightly raced 7yo makes her chase debut after only three runs over hurdles. I think that is interesting, as that doesn't really happen unless connections are certain that she is going to be a much better chaser, and they've had that in mind for a long time, as they physically can't wait to send her over the larger obstacles. She is a previous placed horse in a PTP, so clearly jumps them well enough to run well in a point, and she has shown a bit of ability in her previous hurdle runs in both Ireland when trained by P M J Doyle and her runs for current trainer Harry Whittington. Even though she hasn't won a race, there is definite potential still to be unlocked, as the switch to fences could be the key.
This race doesn't look a strong race in particular, so it is a nice opportunity for her to hit the ground running over the larger obstacles, and potentially kickstart her career. She hasn't been seen on the track for 299 days, which is an obvious concern, but like I mentioned before, they didn't have to run her over fences so soon, so the fact they've come into this without a prep run/fitness run over hurdles suggests that they think she is ready of running a nice race on the back of a layoff. Adrian Heskin is a positive jockey booking and is a jockey riding extremely well at the moment, and is full of confidence. This horse's best run came on soft ground, so the fact that the ground is described as ‘heavy' should be a positive, fingers crossed on a nice run, and some accurate jumping.
