It was nice to bounce back with a decent priced winner after a couple of days where the selections have ran below par. Hiway One O Three won at an advised price of 12/1, but well was backed into 13/2, winning by 15L, which is fair to say it was a blot job. The other selection of Thursday ran well, finishing second, which is a small amount of profit, as it was advised EW.
Newcastle 4:50
Today's racing looks very competitive, and I was close to putting a few others up, but when I delved deeper into the form and the opposition, I sided not to as they were in tricky races. My sole selection of the day isn't great odds, but that's more down to the fact that it's a three runner race. AR MEST was an extremely unlucky loser last time out at this track, and he arguably threw it away as when he hit the front, he idled and didn't do much.
His run last time out over this C&D was his first start for Henry Oliver, who is having a quiet time of things, so it was encouraging to see him run such a good race when you consider the form of the yard isn't up to scratch. As I previously mentioned, he didn't do much when he hit the front, so ideally, he'll have to be delivered late, and who else is better than doing that than Brian Hughes. Brian isn't a usual jockey for Henry Oliver, shown by the fact he has been used a grand total of nine times in the last five years, which has resulted in 2 wins, and a further 5 places, which goes to show he normally picks Brian for when he has a good opportunity. Brian is normally cool as a cucumber, and often frustrates me when he's on a horse and he holds on to them for as long as possible, but for this horse, those tactics look perfect. He was raised 2lbs for that recent run, which is respectable, and it shouldn't cause any problems as he is still extremely well handicapped on older pieces of form when he was trained by Gary Moore, producing a career best RPR of 136 in January 2020.
Slanelough might get an easy lead, which can be dangerous in smaller fields like this, but it would still surprise me if he wins this. The jumping of the other two would have to be extremely poor if he is to win this off top weight. Raffles Gitane is the main threat, but might prefer a faster gallop set, which I can't envisage him getting, as he stayed on well last time out.

Ex Paul Nicholls this and now trained by his ex wife Georgina apparently.
Ridden today by will biddick who also rides for Paul Nicholls, talk about keeping it in the family.
When last seen under rules on Hunter finals day at Stratford in May capitaine slammed today’s favourite ecu de la noverie on today’s terms by 20 lengths but was then disqualified as jockey declared incorrect weight !!.
He had been running over distances he doesn’t stay previously to that (all 7 wins have come over no more than 2 miles 1 furlongs) today is 1 mile 7 a distance he has won at 4 times previously.
Today’s favourite eco de la noverie hasn’t run a chase since that Stratford loss and had a run over hurdles in November finishing 8th of 9 at ascot while capitaine had a run over points in November also when 2nd at larkhill, 2nd of 4 and well beaten by Cheltenham de la vaige.
Drumconner lad is 2nd favourite today and was last of 4 on Hunter debut at haydock but not beat far and that was a better class race than today’s but not sure he would win if the 2 above run near their best.
Capitaine Looks over priced on Stratford form, probably a case of does he retain the ability a year later ??.
That will be the difference between either steak or a bowl of Cheerios for tea 😂 but with the fuel prices going crazy might have to look into eating road kill more often 🤣
Cant beat hedgehog and stoat goujons marinated in ketchup

Elliott announced last night that Jamie Codd will now be on Run Wild Fred for the NHC.
It also looks like Sir Gerhard is Ballymore bound. Not confirmed yet but big reaction in the markets yesterday and is now odds on for the race.
Jonbon wins the supreme if that’s the case then DC 😉
I just don’t know elvis. I’m on Jonbon at 7s so won’t be disappointed if your right, but it’s just so hard to work out.
At an ew price I’ve backed Mighty Potter at 10s as I think it will be a strongly run race with DD in the field. He’s bred for further and was actually 2 secs quicker than Sir Gerhard when winning the Grade 1 future champions in Dec and I can see him staying on better than most up the hill.
Should be a cracking race though.
Morning all well done winners yesterday

440 – GUAS tentative selection, KW ew for the reckless degenerates
GIVE US A SWIG was 2nd lto off 87, the winner went in again. the trainer reaches for an apprentice so he runs off 83. KING WITNESS was 2nd last June in similar conditions and is 1 lower and 28/1. BALLYBREEN rated to go close but is top weight, new claimer, fell and unseated last two, 7/2 far to skinny. BELLAMY’S GREY is 4 higher than an 11l win 2 starts back but that was over hurdles. WIND TOR is 2 below a distant 2nd lto, will handle conditions but again too short at 4s. JURYS OUT is from top stable going off 85, his best form was a 5l 2nd over a year ago off 93, lost by over 60 lengths lto so we can leave at 9s, although trainers main jockey takes over from an apprentice. GUAS beat KESTREL VALLEY by over 20 lengths last time so no point looking there although it is the first time Stan is on board for a while which is a good sign, at 7s, could spring an upset and place.
Having a look at a long shot on my tracker, can’t recommend it but the favourite looks miles clear of the rest and lightly raced compared to others that are close…
