Swift Asset returned the goods for me in my only selection of the day. It was nice to land a winner and end a frustrating few days of racing.
He travelled nicely in behind with some cover and when the gap opened he galloped through with ease. He still looked a tad green in my opinion in particular when he was asked to go win the race but he did just that in the end and that's all that matters.
I haven't had much time to study tomorrow's racing due to my hours in work this week so I apologise in advance for only having 2 selections for tomorrow.
Boyfriend 3/1 – 6:05 Newbury
I was surprised to see Boyfriend priced up as one of the weaker selections at the head of the market. The current market seems to fancy the chances of a couple of newcomers. That being said they come from the Andrew Balding and Eve Johnson yards so that tends to be reflective of their price.
I thought Boyfriend made a really pleasing debut for Richard Hannon and I'm sure he was happy enough himself with his youngster's first run.
He ran very green on debut however still ran a very promising race as he ran the eventual winner Brave Empire ( trained by Roger Varian ) all the way to the line as the 2 broke clear from the remainder of the field.
The form is quite strong as Brave Empire followed up that success next time out at Redcar whilst the 3rd placed horse on that day Matnookh contested in a class 1 at Ascot next time out and although finishing a bit down the field still ran well finishing ahead of some nice types.
Significantly 9/4 – 4:10 Haydock
Although carrying top weight Significantly holds a strong chance in this. On paper, he looks a proper well-handicapped horse based on his past form when he was trained by Karl Burke. Once rated 105 he's now down to a mark of 87 which makes him very competitive if able to produce some of that old form.
He's still only a 5-year-old and was recently purchased for 50,000 guineas by Julie Camacho in October.
He ran a nice race on debut for the Julie Camacho yard. I've mentioned before how a stable change can spark horses back to life and I'm hoping that's the case for my selection tomorrow.
Good luck and well done to all winners!
