RED JASPER (7.40) lost several lengths at the start but still managed to run out a convincing winner at Newcastle, so a follow-up under a 6lb penalty is no forlorn hope at Wolverhampton this evening.
Gordon Elliott and Joe Fanning teamed up to score here with Pink Jazz over a mile last month but this shorter trip may not be ideal. Red Jasper is readily preferred, with Seventeen O Four a more likely threat for Michael Bell.
RUNNING CLOUD (5.05) represents a bit of value against likely market leader Foresee in the 1m 6f handicap. Running Cloud produced a 25-1 shock in an amateur riders' handicap here nine days ago and a 5lb rise is cancelled out by apprentice Georgia Dobie's claim. Foresee has never been in better nick and should still go close, despite the handicapper hitting him with an 11lb rise for his latest five lengths Newcastle victory. Power Home thrashed Willkommen over course and distance at Christmas but Willkommen has been in better form lately.
At Southwell, SIX TIL TWELVE (4.00) narrowly lost out in a blanket finish to Robsdelight and favourite Le Manege Enchante almost a fortnight ago and Robyn Brisland's gelding must go close in the 6f handicap. Tom Queally is an eye-catching booking by Seamus Durack for Para Mio, while Jan Van Hoof, making a Fibresand debut, is penalised 5lb for his Newcastle success 13 days ago.
DIRECTORY (3.30) runs this track particularly well and lost little in defeat when chasing home Silverturnstogold over course and distance last month. He was raised 2lb for that effort but James Eustace has chosen to employ 7lb claimer Elisha Whittington to more than offset that increase. Mosakhar strode clear by more than three lengths from Smile A Mile here in early January and a 7lb rise is by no means insurmountable if returning in that sort of form. Brains is up 8lb for his latest Chelmsford City victory and has his first attempt on this surface.
