CHARTERED (3.25) hasn't been seen since hosing up by more than four lengths at Goodwood in June but she is one to follow at Newmarket.
Ralph Beckett's three-year-old daughter of Frankel relished the soft ground and something similar underfoot is forecast at HQ this weekend. Three-year-olds should dominate the finish and lightly-raced Chartered can ward off Fly The Flag and Top Power.
FUN MAC (2.50) took full advantage of his lowest handicap rating in more than four years when holding Arrowtown over 2m 2f at Pontefract last month and is up to defying a 4lb penalty. Graceful Lady sluiced up by six lengths in this race last year off a much lower mark and Andrew Breslin takes off 5lb.
At more speculative odds AWAKE MY SOUL (2.15) should go well, with trainer Tom Tate emerging from a long barren spell with a couple of winners lately. Awake My Soul usually hits form in late autumn on soft ground, winning comfortably at York last October off an 8lb higher mark and also at Redcar the previous November. The veteran gelding shaped okay when third to Bo Samraan at Pontefract last month, with the winner scoring again at Catterick on Tuesday. William Hill are offering four places each-way. Majestic Dawn is a worthy favourite, backing up a fine fifth in the Cambridgeshire with a game Nottingham success.
Newcastle stage a classy evening fixture but it looks a tough punting card. BE PROUD (5.25) doesn't hold any secrets but is still running well for Jim Goldie after a busy campaign. He lost out in a blanket finish over course and distance ten days ago and this looks slightly less competitive.

The novice chase at uttoxeter is an interesting one. Pity Thomas Darby has been pulled but I’m taking First Flow to beat Somerville Boy who was very disappointing last year and has a bit to prove this campaign.

secondly, i had a £20 double riding on it to return £500, so i didn’t have a massive stake on it.
i simply discounted her chances based purely on the fact I have had a 100 bigger returns fall at the final hurdle and this was inevitably going to be another.
