Alan Thomson has a trio of tasty tips from midweek racing action at Kempton Park.
BARKING MAD (6.30) did well to defy the widest draw when getting up close home over course and distance at Kempton a fortnight ago.
He has a 3lb rise to cope with on a return trip this evening but Phuket Power should ensure a decent gallop to attack.
BRIDGEWATER BAY (7.30) could hardly be described as leniently treated on handicap debut off a mark of 80 but with most firms offering four places each-way, he can leave behind a disappointing third when well-touted at Lingfield. He seemed to prefer this more galloping track when accounting for John Gosden's Sheriffmuir in a one-mile novice stakes last month.
NAFAAYES (2.20) lacks a change of gear but usually acquits herself well at Lingfield. She finished runner-up in this two-mile handicap last year, running on from a poor position after being hampered at the gate, and looks too big a price at 16-1 with Paddy Power. Again, most bookmakers are going four places each-way and if Nafaayes can repeat her third to Alan King's Giving Back over course and distance in November, she will be on the premises.
Padleyourowncanoe developed into a fairly useful handicap hurdler and is a very rare Colin Tizzard runner on the all-weather. He looks sure to go close along with Social City, a winner last time at Chelmsford City when stepped up in distance by in-form trainer Tony Carroll.
2.20 L Amanto 14/1 E/W PP paying 4. Throw in Alan’s tip for R/FC. Will check prices with BET365 tomorrow for E/W Extra, on both of them.
Still gone with the above, Amanto at 14’s Nafaayes money come for this at 9’s, still doing R/FC.
4.30 K Bescaby 25/1 E/W
7.30 K Scofflaw 16/1 E/W Most firms paying 4. Bet365 5 places 12/1.
8.00 K Little Palaver 20/1 E/W Most firms paying 4. Bet365 6 places 12/1.

Very sad news to hear about Richard Johnson this morning, chasing his 5th straight Jockey’s Title are over. He will be out of action for up to 2 months a period includes the showpiece Cheltenham Festive. The 42-year-old trails his main rival B Hughes by 3 wins in the campaign, which ends in April.
He has broken his right arm between the elbow and the hand and he’s going to have it plated either today or tomorrow. Trainer P Hobbs, for whom Johnson is stable jockey, quoted ‘he’s very positive and said he’ll definitely be back for HQ, no problem. I wish you well ‘DICKIE’, hope your back in the saddle soon mate, the ‘GAME’ needs ya. A true PRO, gentleman, eager and very dedicated AMBASSADOR who loves his job/sport. He travels over 150K miles per season, will go to Perth for 3 rides and turns out the following day at Newton Abbot for 1/2 rides.
But, like the Old Saying in Life, As One Chapter Closes, Another Begins. Well done, B Hughes I can see nobody catching him for his first Jockey Championship. {Admittedly he has not won it yet, still roughly 12 weeks left of the season] I have included that sentence before some SMART-ARSE gets his tuppence in. He’s been knocking on the door for the last 2/3 seasons so fair play to ya mate.
Jockey’s Title Race: Hughes 114, Johnson 111, Davies 86, Skelton 81. Last week the odds were Hughes 4/7 Johnson 10/11. A quote in Sporting Life: Major bookmakers immediately suspended betting on the title race when it was reported on JOHNSON’S injury.
Be Lucky.
