Haliphon was beaten on hurdles debut, which surprised me, but when I saw the money arriving for the eventual winner, it made me realise it could be a real gamble, which it was. The winner was gambled into 3/1 from around 14/1 and maybe bigger, so fair play to connections for landing that one.

We didn't come away empty-handed on Friday though as Kinodo Kwetu did the business for us at Uttoxeter to remain unbeaten over fences.

Ascot 4:40

In a big handicap like this, you can give a mention to virtually every horse in the race due to its competitiveness of it. With six places on offer, I think it's worth a chance on Roger Varian's still lightly raced 4yo gelding of Dark Angel, TYRRHENIAN SEA.

I'm sure some of you will have heard the comparison to AW horses handling Ascot well and appreciating this track better than any other turf course in country, and for that reason, I think it could suit this horse who is 3/5 on the AW and is currently 0/3 on turf. He definitely handles turf, but AW has seemed to be his calling so far into his short career, but if Ascot can eek out that little bit of improvement from him then he is a big player in this race.

The reason why AW horses take a liking to Ascot is something to do with the surface underneath the grass. As you see at York on a very dry day, the horses kick up a lot of sand, which is sat underneath the turf, and I imagine it will be similar for Ascot but not sand but something which is close to the artificial surfaces they use on the AW.

The form from this fella is good, and he has run well in some competitive handicaps this year, finishing 3rd at York in a Class 2 won by Blue For You, which recorded an RPR of 110. He then finished 5th/16 at Doncaster, recording an RPR of 109 as well as showing that he can handle soft conditions which are likely to be around for today's race.

Newton Abbot 4:05

Taking on Pic D'Orhy might not be the wisest of ideas as he is a genuine graded-level horse, but the weight he has to give away to KISSESFORKATIE on seasonal reappearance makes her of real interest, despite never jumping a fence in public before.

It's always a risk backing a horse on debut over hurdles or fences as you never know how they've trained, but you can imagine she's shown enough to warrant a try over fences this season as she is a mare who has achieved black-type over hurdles, and they could've easily gone hurdling again this year or she could've even gone to stud as a broodmare as she would've been sold for a heft chunk.

Jeremy Scott could've found her an easier target for her first race over fences but clearly feels like she has the class and weight advantage to cause problems to the odds-on favourite. She is only rated 11lbs inferior to the Nicholls runner but receives 23lbs in weight.

With a lot of rain forecast to fall, the ground should be borderline soft ground, which won't be ideal for the favourite, but it will be perfectly fine for Kissesforkatie who won on heavy last year and has run many good races on testing ground, so fingers crossed the rain continues to fall.

Legends Ryde isn't out of this race by an means and has to be respected, but he is massively out of the weights in this contest with it not being a handicap and it would be a surprise to see him win this.

Can’t believe they would send this here for fresh air ?

He also sends grand national winner noble years over in the 2-50 over 2 miles 5, too short so likely just a bit if fresh air for this.
Francois Nicole has 6 of the 11 runners and all have a chance.
I’ll have a dabble in the outsider of the 6.

    Kinross – 2.00 Ascot – 5/1

Surely the best horse in the race and comes into this in top form. It’s clear that 7f is his optimum trip and the fact he hasn’t won over 6f yet is a slight concern. However there were excuses for his last two attempts, one being the ground (too hard) and other being stuck and then hampered in running. Today he’ll get ideal ground conditions and he has a relatively decent draw with a lot of pace around him.

The Breeders Cup Mile appears to be his main aim however connections have said that they simply could not miss this opportunity as he is thriving at the moment and all expect a huge run.

I can see Frankie sitting pretty and then pressing the go button with the horse sprinting to a nice lead and winning cosily. Well, that’s the hope but this horse certainly has the quality to adhere.

At the prices if you go each way I simply can’t see you losing your money with 4 places on offer, however I’m ultra-confident so have gone for the straight win.

Good luck all on what should be a great day’s racing 👍

    Glad baaeed lost.
I seen baaeed and Frankel through their 11 race careers and it’s Frankel all day long as the best ever, retiring like rocky Marciano with his 0 intact made it all the better.

When Frankel ran it was an event in itself, he had the wow factor as he stalked his prey then turned on the afterburners to leave the opposition in his wake.

people in work who didn’t watch racing watched with interest when he ran.
Baaeed brilliant though he was didn’t quite capture the public imagination in the same way for me.

What do you think racing folks ??
comparisons will be made in years in the future but the frankster was a good of horses in My book

Elvis I think it’s pretty sad a couple of yous are glad an unbeaten horse got beat on his swansong.
The state of horse racing just now it needs all the super stars it can get and it’s a shame IMO he didn’t go undefeated.
Foke ripped into connections for not going for the Arc on even softer conditions and 2f further he probably would have been pulled up or trailing in out the back.
On the ground today it was only his supposedly invincibility that made him 1/5 no race can be a walk over with a derby and King George winner in the field.
Frankel was a freak and youl never see a guineas winner like him again but he also never went for the Arc.

Mostly Elvis I just don’t get stopping a horse until it’s going backwards and should retire!
Hate it and it’s nonsense to try to retire it unbeaten.
Think I’d pay plenty more for Enables offspring or obviously Dubawai and Galileo etc so fook em!

    • Avatar of Elvis Parsley
      elvis parsley 2 years ago

Why would Frankel go for the arc deb2000,
      It’s like a 100 metre track runner running a 400 race he wouldn’t win.
Frankel’s greatness was around the mile mark which he retired unbeaten at.
      Strange analogy that

    • Avatar of Deb2000
      Deb2000 2 years ago

Whys it strange Elvis Frankel retired as a 3 year old with his last 2 wins at 10f a champion on soft.
Henry Cecils wife is on record saying if Henry hadn’t been so ill shes sure he would have talked the owners into bringing him back as a 4 year old and only 1 race would have been the aim The Arc.

      Fair point deb2000.
We racing people will be talking about these 2 greats over a pint for years to come and all will have differing opinions, it’s what makes us human innit …

      Next question
Who is the next great horse that we will debate as a future great ???
Is there one running now who you see as a superstar ?
