Racing tips: An opening handicap mark of 75 underestimates the ability of Our Jester

For a Tuesday it's nice to see a good bit of Group action which comes at Deauville. They have a Group 1 which has some British and Irish horses such as Saffron Beach and Tenerberism, it looked like a tough race to split the two so I've decided to leave that alone and go for one in the opener instead.

Deauville 12:10

For my first selection of the day, I head over to the capital of France at Paris' Deauville. This Group 3, called the Prix de Psyche doesn't look amazing in quality and looks to have a lack of pace on offer, so backing a horse who will either set the pace or sit close to it will be your best bet.

HIDDEN DIMPLES is a horse who finished 7L behind a previous selection of mine in the form of Baiykara at Chantilly near two months ago. She was very well supported that day, going off at 4/5F, so her performance was massively underwhelming. Despite that, I think she is worth another go today over a shorter trip. She sat close to the pace last time and I think her gas tank emptied over that longer trip on soft ground so a drop back to 10f will suit on ground which should hopefully be good-to-soft at the slowest with Paris expecting temperatures of around 20 degrees for most of the day, which should dry the current ground (soft).

The form of her win before that run at Chantilly is now deemed to be very strong with the runner-up, La Parisienne finishing second to Nashwa in the French Oaks a few weeks ago. On collateral form, that is the best form in this race by a big distance. Obviously, horse racing doesn't always work out like that, but when you compare the form of the other horses in this lineup, it rates better by a country mile.

Chances are that this filly will be a shorter price than I was hoping for due to being a well-backed favourite last time and having the combination of Andre Fabre and Mickael Barzalona on her side.

Ffos Las 1:25

He's short enough in the market, but it doesn't surprise me and as long as he stays above EVS I think he is a cracking bet and as daft as it sounds, it probably is still value. OUR JESTER has all the credentials of being a very well-handicapped horse off an opening flat mark of 75. This race looks tailormade for him, with him being a horse from the jumps scene. By that I mean with this being an Amateur Jockeys' race, they will be carrying heavier weights than normal, and that is fine for this lad who has carried 11st 8lbs to a win in a Lingfield bumper race. It's hard to work out how well bumper form is and trying to translate it to a flat rating, but his Ascot bumper win looks good and has an RPR of 118, which is fairly useful for a bumper run, and his 7th in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham behind Facile Vega looks a good effort, with that run producing an RPR of 125.

He has run well in his flat runs, especially on his debut behind Savvy Knight where he lost by a nose. He was giving that horse 12lbs and still managed to make a good race of it. That horse has since become a 92-rated horse, so to put that into perspective, that's probably why he is the price he is. He has run well in defeat on the other two runs but has excuses as to why he didn't get as close as he probably should've, but in hindsight, it has worked out well as he has been given a nice handicap mark. They step him up in trip by 2f, which should suit being a bumper horse where he has run over further, and the jockey booking of Mr James King looks a positive one as well. James is a very good amateur who has had 20 wins from 153 rides over the jumps.
