Racing tips: Almost Gotaway looks to have enough in hand to carry top weight

I'm back from my trip to Paris and it's been great to see Cairnzy firing in the winners on a regular basis in my absence. 

Market Rasen 2:15 – Windtothelightning 15/8 (1pt)

A couple of horses in this race could be on a decent handicap mark, but the one I felt was on the best mark is WINDTOTHELIGHTNING for the Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero team.

She finished second on her sole PTP when trained in Ireland and then made a very encouraging debut run over hurdles for her current stable at Doncaster. I think she needed that run quite badly as her jump at the second from home was sloppy, and that might've been down to inexperience and the time away from the track. I think the form of that race is decent and it was a nice starting point.

She then won on her next start at Sedgefield, winning with plenty in hand (12L). The runner-up has since franked the form by winning the other day and winning well. She travelled strongly throughout that race and won like a horse who had much more to give and a horse who could be a decent horse and threatened to be in the late 120 handicap ratings at the very least. She's had just over three weeks off, which will have her spot on for today's race and I think she could be too good for these as long as she sits close to the pace and doesn't let one of them get too much of an easy lead of things.

Market Rasen 3:45 – Hiway One O Three 11/8 (1pt)

Chris Gordon remains in tremendous form, currently operating at a 41% SR in the last 14 days, which has seen him with the Betfair Hurdle as well as some other nice races. His runner in this, HIWAY ONE O THREE was a progressive hurdler and has transitioned into a nice chaser though he hasn't managed to get a win, but this race looks winnable and it'll be a nice place to kickstart his life over fences.

He hasn't done anything wrong in his two chase starts so far, he's probably needed the run on his first start, being 219 days off the track. He was sweating, so clearly was excited to get back on the racecourse and wanted to crack on with things and then at Wincanton we couldn't see much due to the fog, but he finished 3rd behind a subsequent winner, and apparently, he was never travelling that day, so he might've bounced after such a big layoff. I think the fact they've given him some extra time off between that race and today is the correct call and we'll see an improved performance today.

Market Rasen 4:15 – Mixedwave 15/8 (1pt)

I was on the receiving end of MIXEDWAVE‘s win last time out when I put up Flann in a short-priced double, which turned out to not be so short-priced when both horses drifted. I was impressed with Mixedwave that day and fancy him to win again today based on that effort.

Flann franked the form when winning last time out, which didn't surprise me and the manner in which Mixedwave won that day when they met suggested he could still be on a good handicap mark and this slightly longer trip will be fine considering he saw out the trip well at Leicester which is a stamina track on the long straight which often catches out a lot of horses.

Taunton 2:00 – Almost Gotaway 7/2 (1pt)

The weight that ALMOST GOTAWAY has to carry is a concern, and the weight difference between him and Fame And Fun this time around does favour the latter horse, but I think this horse is still progressing and can win again.

David Pritchard seems well worth his 5lb claim, he seems a good jockey as we saw when he won the Welsh National earlier this year and he gave this horse a belting ride to win last time out. There was 11L between him and the Nicholls horse who was back in third fourteen days ago but I can't see a reverse in the form. Almost Gotaway pulled well clear with the runner-up of the rest and he beat the Gary Moore who was deemed to be well handicapped, considering he was subject to a gamble the race he won before, so based on that I think this horse is more than capalbe of winning off a higher handicap mark and defying a big weight.
