The Mediterranean was easily beat yesterday by Search For A Song, who bounced back to form and put in a cracking performance. I've gone back to the jumps card for the start of the new week. Fingers crossed on a winner or two.
Newton Abbot 1:30
This doesn't appear to be a great race, hence why the favourite is a short price, as he clearly has the best form on offer, however I'm taking a chance on a wind-op making a difference to WISE GLORY.
Loved Out, the odds on favourite, is having his first start for his new yard after being transferred from Thomas Mullins' stable. He didn't win a race in Ireland, but he was placed on four of his five hurdle runs, with his most recent performance producing an RPR of 113. He is clearly the horse to beat, but with the ground potentially getting quite testing with the forecast rain, I think that could be against this horse who has shown his best runs over hurdles on a sound surface.
Wise Glory has had three runs over hurdles for Paul Nicholls, and it's not quite gone to plan with him so far. He was a useful flat horse, winning twice and is rated 86. Since he's transitioned to a jumps horse he has been beaten by 36L, 26L and 24L and after two of those runs Paul Nicholls came out and said it was due to a breathing issue, and I think that could be correct. In his first two races over hurdles he travelled very strongly and jumped well for the most part, but when he got tired (could be due to breathing) he weakened instantly and his jumping deteriorated. He's not been seen since his April run and in that time he has had a wind-op, which will hopefully help him out massively.
I believe that they think he can be a decent jumps horse as he was entered into a Class 1 Listed race on his hurdling debut, where he went off at 3/1. As I said previously, he travelled nicely through that race, which showed to me he has potential over this code. He was bought by Megan/Paul Nicholls at the Tatts Autumn sale in 2020 for 135,000GNS which also suggests that they really like the look of him.
Roscommon 1:55
There is a chance that the selection for this race won't run as he is a reserve, and will rely on horses being withdrawn for him to get his chance, but if he does get a chance he should run a big race.
DOWNTHECELLAR is the selection for this race, and based on his chase form, his hurdles rating makes him attractively well weighted. He is rated 122 over fences, but is only 87 over hurdles. There is definitely a reason why he is that much higher over fences, and that is because he is simply better as a chaser, but he should definitely be better than an 87 rated hurdler. He racked up a four-timer over fences during this summer, and was en-route to a big run over hurdles at Wexford until Paul Townend struggled to control him as he entered the home straight, and the horse ran out. Connections must've felt he has a very strong chance as he was backed into 11/10F for that race.
There is forecast a lot of rain at Roscommon which should change the ground to soft or yielding, so hopefully there will be a few NR's so our lad can get his chance to show what he's made of.
Evening,
Sovereign Prince returned a nice winner today after drifting from 7/2 out to 9/2. Buick managed to get a nice toe into the race and when he pulled the whip he wore down the front runner with a furlong to go.
A lovely way to end a very good week.
Very hard to call races tomorrow, so I’m just sticking with one selection.
Bath – 5:00 – Ruby’s Cottage 11/2 Each Way
Ancient times under Hayley Turner will be hard to beat if running anything like she has in previous few runs and probably is a worthy favourite but one that caught my eye at more attractive odds was Ruby’s Cottage.
I wouldn’t let a string of three 2nd place finishes out you off. Previous 5 runs have all been at this venue with form reading 31222. Remains unexposed and takes drop in class.
I don’t normally touch each way odds unless they are at least 8s and above as there isn’t much point but this is a tight little race and if Ruby’s Cottage at least hits the frame which she has done in last 5 runs we will at least get our stake back for another roll of the dice.
Good luck

@Elvis
I haven’t been betting mate… well not to the extent I was so no money in the pocket unfortunately. I enjoy studying racing and form and sharing my knowledge.
I mentioned a few days ago about maybe putting up my donation PayPal link and if anyone felt like they wanted to throw a few quid towards the effort into studying etc then fair dues.
I’ll maybe stick it up under my write ups. If people/admin don’t like it then I’ll take it down. Need to make sure it’s still up and running. I don’t agree with people charging for tips the sports too unpredictable to be doing that.
