Racing tips: A penalty won’t be enough to halt Power Under Me in the Listed race at Cork

The race at Hamilton was a total farce, it was run at a crawl for the entirety of the race until a couple of furlongs from home when it became a sprint. Why Hollie Doyle or another jockey didn't pressure or inject some pace into the race I'll never know, as it was never going to suit my horse who needs a good pace to aim at, but I guess that's why they're jockeys and I'm not.

Cork 4:15 – Power Under Me 9/2 (1pt Bet365)

Carrying a penalty in this race won't be easy for Power Under Me, but the soft ground and return to a mile is definitely a bonus for him and the punters who are backing him.

He won a Group 3 the time before last and was then tried in a Group 2 where he didn't quite get the rub of the green but ran with plenty of respect behind some nice horses. That last race was over 7f and he was blocked and then had to run on again, which to his credit he did do and he finished a good 4th/10. It's quite remarkable that he seems better than ever over these longer trips as he once was a useful sprinter and I could never envisage him wanting a mile, but he clearly does as he stays strongly in his races. When he won at Leopardstown it was a bit of a shock and Ger Lyons said that “he appreciated a return to a track with a turn”, if there's any truth in that then Cork will be up his street, he is already a course winner, but that was on the straight track, and the fact he is drawn in stall 2 should hopefully allow Colin Keane to get a nice prominent position so he can avoid any trouble as this is a 14 runner field, so plenty of scrimaging will be happening in the key points of the race.

There are more unexposed horses in this race than Power Under Me, that's always going to happen, but whether they are good enough is another question which needs answering. For me, I don't think the younger horses pose too much of a threat, and I don't think Self Belief who is also carrying a penalty poses much of a threat either. Self Belief beat a couple of younger horses last time out, but I don't think that form will amount to much and it was a bit of a shock to see him actually win, he likes soft ground too, but I don't think he's anywhere near as good as Power Under Me.
