Wake Up Early returned a well-needed winner for me, winning at drifted odds of 3/1. I thought he'd lose, after being under the pump for quite a while, but he battled on tenaciously and outstayed his rival.
Don Herbager was a NR, and I'm not sure why as I thought he had a great chance of winning yesterday. I'll keep my eyes peeled for where he runs next.
Newbury 3:10 – Loupe De Maulde 13/2 (1pt ew 4pl)
Though this is a weaker race than what Zanza has been racing against, I couldn't be backing him at his favourite venue at his current odds. He's far too short for my liking. Yes, he's well-handicapped based on his chase exploits, but he's surely better on quicker ground, and carrying 12 stone on soft ground over hurdles, which he's clearly not as good over, makes him a big lay.
I really think this race isn't that great, the horses who occupy the top of the weights don't exactly have outstanding pieces of form, or they have questions to be asked about their handicap mark, ground or trip. I really do like the chances of Loup De Maulde, and I can't believe he's not the favourite.
Robbie Llewellyn has worked a miracle with this horse this season, he's been a different animal since moving to this stable as his form numbers, congested of 1s and 2s would suggest. I think this guy is well-handicapped off his current handicap mark of 125 (which is 123 as he carries a penalty instead of his new mark). The run behind Thomas Mor looks like a great effort considering that horse finished 6th in the Albert Bartlett at the Festival just gone. This guy stays very well and handles the soft ground like we saw when he won at Warwick last time out, eased down and still won by 6.5L.
He's surely one of the best EW bets of the day.
Musselburgh 1:50 – Lone Star 9/4 (1pt)
I tipped up Lone Star when she finished second at Market Rasen, since then she's won three times and I've not been on her once 🤣 typical…
She is progressing really nicely and the handicapper keeps giving her a chance to win, and he's done it again with just a 5lb rise in the weights for an easy success over today's C&D a few weeks ago. Based on that performance, she's going to take the world of beating in this race. Though this is deemed to be a Class 2 race, it's not the quality of that, as it's the Series Final and it's a glorified class 4 if we're being honest, with the top-rated being 119 rated.
I wouldn't worry about Philip's main stable jockey riding Ravenscar instead of Lone Star, as Joe Williamson (5) has ridden this mare on her last five starts, and clearly gets a great tune out of her.
She stays further than today's trip but has the pace to keep up and travel nicely through races over today's trip. The ground is a slight question, but she seems to handle good to soft, so I think she'll be fine. I was expecting a shorter price than 9/4, so I see that as value.
Nice win Rizz.
What’s your thoughts on Sean Quinlan’s dive?
This is why I don’t really back horses.
I’d like to think Sean Quinlan is a trustworthy jockey. He’s always come across that way in interviews.
The owner of the horse has had bad press over the years with him making comments on Twitter that the “handbrake is off” when his horse won a race after being well backed, previously showing no form. So I can see why people would think it’s a bit dodgy.
People seem to have only seen one camera angle of the unseat, and that’s the side angle. If you see the camera from the front you see that the horse just jink out to the left and causes Sean to be unbalanced. I think it’s a bit unlucky.
Bookies will know if it’s dodgy as they can check the money placed on the lay market/on the other horse. Any significant big sums would raise concerns.
Well done winners yesterday.
Wasn’t great all in but couple of decent singles kept it fair .

Was upped in class after 4 months off and looked green and beaten but flew home from a wide position in the straight. Noted it was an impressive ride from the jockey as he never looked worried getting up to win by a length while I was cursing him! 🤬 😂. Surely more to come!
