New Year’s Day Racing Tips: Funambule Sivola looks better than his mark of 155

Happy new year to everyone! It’s not the worst day of racing on New Year's Day from Cheltenham but I was hoping to see a bit more quality.

Regardless there’s one runner that caught my eye who I think is better than his current mark suggests.

2:00 Cheltenham

A grade 3 handicap chase over 2m4 is where I’ve decided to go hunting. Funambule Sivola was a horse that stood out for me. I think he could be slightly better than his current mark of 155.

Given he’s ridden with some restraint he has less question marks on his head than the rest of this field in my opinion.

I managed to get another watch at his previous run in the Peterborough chase at Huntingdon a few weeks ago and he ran an absolute blinder, finishing 2nd ahead of Master Tommytucker and Allmankind (both faded badly).

That race was set up for a horse who was ridden with restraint (end winner first flow flew home) and although the running style didn’t suit Sivola either that day he still ran a very good race.

Im hoping Charlie Deutsch can get him to settle in behind and pounce late on.

I think he could be very dangerous when it comes to the straight as he has quite a nice turn of foot when he’s asked to pick up and go and win the race.
