GOODWOOD PLACEPOT
——————————-
14:00 – There are a number of interesting newcomers in the opening leg but Kiyoshi, who made her debut in a Newmarket maiden last month, makes plenty of appeal with the step up to six furlongs expected to suit. The aforementioned maiden has thrown up seven subsequent winners and Kiyoshi, who cost 80,000 gns as a yearling, caught the eye in no uncertain terms as she stayed on well under a hands-and-heels ride having found further back than ideal in the early stages.
14:35 – This is a fairly warm three-year-old handicap and we want a couple on side, particularly with the risk of a single non-runner knocking the available places down to just two. The first to make the cut is Swift Bounty, who caught the eye on his reappearance at Ascot when fourth to the reopposing King Of The Danes, enduring a troubled passage and finishing with plenty of running left. It’s also worth including the twice-raced Aussie Lyrics, who finished behind the likes of Hillstar and Pythagorean on debut at Leicester last year. He subsequently got off the mark at Lingfield and, with improvement expected now handicapping and upped in trip, he could well out-perform market expectations.
15:10 – George Guru posted a career-best when scoring over C&D last month, beating The Confessor by just over a length, but the feeling is that the race panned out more in his favour and with a 5 lb rise to overcome the form could well be reversed. Therefore The Confessor, who arguably paid for racing too close to the overly strong pace that day, is the first one to be included in our permutation. We’re also going to stick in Noble Citizen, who wasn’t beaten far in this race last year and now races from a 2 lb lower mark; he ought to be sharper for his seasonal return and may sneak a place.
15:45 – Elik was unlucky not to finish closer in the Cheshire Oaks last time and she seems certain to do better at some stage in the near future. She very nearly went in as a banker here but there is an unidentifiable niggling doubt somewhere in the back of my mind that has also led to me including Trapeze, a progressive filly trained by John Gosden who shaped well when second to Ribbons at this venue earlier this month.
16:20 – The Andrew Balding-trained Silver Samba makes plenty of appeal in the penultimate leg having looked ready to add to her tally when third at Ascot last time. She is deserving of a bit of extra credit for that performance, having endured a rougher trip than most, and she strikes as being on a fairly handy mark. Montaff isn’t one to have any great faith in with regards to him winning but he has slipped in the weights and has shaped well enough on his two runs this term; if at his peak he is well up to hitting the places.
16:55 – Although far from being the best race in terms of quality that will be run at Goodwood this summer this final leg is relatively interesting with a couple arriving here in fair form. The one that makes most appeal however is Chevise, who has been running well enough on the all-weather and has a lower turf mark to exploit.

BACK Elik @ 10/3 PADDYPOWER
3:45 GOODWOOD
NAP ** NAP **
Elik can shed her maiden tag in style with victory in the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood on Thursday.
This race, which used to be known as the Lupe Stakes, looks an ideal opportunity for Sir Michael Stoute’s filly as she has been making significant progress with every outing so far.
Hailing from a stout family, Elik never really appealed as a juvenile prospect but she was not disgraced in two outings before being given a winter break.
Pitched back into action in a Wolverhampton maiden last month, she ran into one too good in Woodland Aria, a filly who was capable enough to finish third in the Musidora at York last week.
Stoute took a more moderate approach with his inmate, though, and opted to line up in the Cheshire Oaks but Elik did not enjoy the best of trips, being bumped a furlong out, before staying on well to claim fourth.
She was only beaten three lengths by winner Banoffee that day and a similar performance would certainly put her on the premises here.

Does anyone know when the odds are up on William hill for tomorrow? Don’t want to take SP
I was just wondering the same Joe
Alot of buzz this morning about Basseterre 4-05 @ Haydock. Already shifted in from 5’s to 7/2. C&D winner and could be one of the days big movers !!
Basseterre made up into a useful performer last year and he can build on an encouraging reappearance at Newmarket earlier this month by landing the 16:05 at Haydock. Trainer Charlie Hills had warned punters that Basseterre would need the run at Newmarket, and he certainly shaped like a horse that would benefit from the outing, travelling well for much of the way before flattening out in the final furlong. Basseterre finished last season on an upward curve and there is little reason to think that he is incapable of further progress this year.
Back Basseterre @ 4.4 in the 16:05 at Haydock

Cheers Milesey for info, Basseterre now @ 11/4 !

AL, welcome back. Hope you were somewhere nice.
Cheers, was just away to Mallorca for 10 days, nice wee break! Was keeping an eye on the site when I was away, had a few small wins myself, and came close to a couple of decent returns. Man U let me down for around £600 on the last day of the Premiership season, & Dortmund let me down for a 4 figure return on a perm, still got around £150 back off a £35 bet though!
Fell just short with todays bet, 2 winners a 2nd & a 3rd so gave me a good run for my money!
AL, sounds good. Nothing better than being on holiday though and picking a few winners. Only problem is you can’t nip round to the bookies and pick up your winnings.
Aye can’t complain, sitting by the pool sunbathing with a beer in hand checking the results coming in. All but what feels like a distant memory now though, was hoping to get some golf in this week when I got home but not much chance of that happening!
Going for Contradict in the 3.45 against Elik. He was impressive against Dream Wild last time and the ground is in his favour. Going each way.
