I am so confident on this one I am going to make it my Nap. It has dropped to a nice mark and if it has a good run will take all the beating here, market confidence will make me feel a bit better on this too, for I expect it to be hammered in before off time.

OWNER OCCUPIER gets a tentative vote under a nice weight and he might appreciate going up in trip. He struggled behind Peak Seasons when only managing fifth at Towcester but he’s dangerously well handicapped on a return to his best form and should be on offer at generous odds.

8/1 now, can even see it lower in some places.

The Ballymacoll Stud-owned/Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly Liber Nauticus (14:45 York) is out of a close relative to Conduit, who landed a St Leger, King George and a pair of Breeders’ Cup Turf titles in his illustrious career, and the daughter of Azamour can cement her place towards the head of the Oaks market by taking today’s Musidora Stakes. She went into plenty of notebooks when justifying market confidence to impressively land a one-mile Goodwood maiden in September on debut, and with significant improvement expected, she can take this Group 3-event en route to Epsom.

Back Liber Nauticus @ 2.0 in the 14:45 at York

      YORK PLACEPOT
      ————————-

13:45 – It is possible to make a case of sorts for the vast majority of the contenders in the opening leg but the pair we have settled on for Placepot purposes are Ruscello and Silvery Moon. The first mentioned arrives here on an upward curve having taken his form to a new level on his last two starts and he remains on an attractive mark having shaped well on his seasonal bow at Kempton last month, whilst Silvery Moon, trained by Tim Easterby, looked in need of his return at Pontefract last time and has now dropped below his last winning mark. The six-year-old ran well on his second start of last term, finishing second in a decent race at Ripon, and he is expected to strip fitter now he has a run under his belt.

14:15 – Non-runners have taken this field down to 15, leaving us with just the three places to aim at, so we will need to take a few in order to make it through. The first to make the cut is Farlow, who hasn’t been with Richard Fahey for long and looks to be building up to something when judged on his latest effort at Doncaster, and it is also worth including Singeur, who travelled well for a long way on his return at Pontefract, when fifth to York Glory, and is certainly not one to be writing off. We’re also going to stick in Mass Rally, who can be a law unto himself but went close more often than not last year and seems certain to be competitive this afternoon.

14:45 – The Musidora Stakes really boils down to just the two, namely Liber Nauticus and Woodland Aria, both of whom have tasted success on their only visits to the track. Given the competitive nature of this card we need to bank in here and the one chosen is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Liber Nauticus, a close relative to the top-class Conduit, who could hardly have been more impressive at Goodwood last year, should make above-average improvement and rates as an exciting prospect for this season.

15:15 – I really fancy Swiss Spirit to go well here, with the four-year-old making his debut for new trainer John Gosden; he was gradually progressive last year and has always struck as one that could make an impact at the highest level. Slight reservations over the easing of the ground have led to me also including Hawkeyethenoo, who shaped well on his reappearance despite not being seen to best effect and out to come on for that outing.

15:50 – Cockney Sparrow, who made up into a useful juvenile hurdler over the winter, looks to be on a handy mark now returned to the Flat and she appeals as being a decent starting point in the penultimate leg. We’re also going to stick in Opera Box, who hasn’t stood much racing but has looked most promising on the occasions that she has made the track, particularly so when finishing second to subsequent Newmarket winner Boonga Roogeta at Doncaster on her handicap debut last time.

16:25 – Steventon Star is likely to take up a hefty chunk of the Placepot pool in this leg but he meets six horses who have all won, so this is far from a simple assignment; we’re going to take him on with a couple, namely Peniaphobia and Extortionist in the hope that the favourite misses out. The former won with a bit to spare at Pontefract earlier this month, getting the better of a couple of next time out winners, despite obvious signs of inexperience and he seems sure to improve whilst Extortionist looked above average in making a winning start at Nottingham and it would come as no surprise were he to step up on that now.

      Selections:
      13:45 – 6, 11
      14:15 – 4, 10, 16
      14:45 – 4
      15:15 – 6, 11
      15:50 – 6, 12
      16:25 – 1, 3
      = 48 lines

If the going turns to soft in the rain today at York then this horse may be a great E/W shout at good odds, pasted this from another site and ive checked the claims so one to look out for if going suits…
”JACK DEXTER 12-1 from 20s , Has long looked the type to make up into a Pattern performer when there is give in the ground, and with conditions looking set to be in his favour at the time of writing, he can spring a minor surprise in the Duke Of York Stakes on the opening day of the Dante meeting (3.15). It’s easy to forget that he made his racecourse debut only just over a year ago, so quickly has he progressed through the sprinting ranks, and he returned as good as ever when winning a Listed race at Doncaster in March. The ground was probably too quick for him last time, when he faced a difficult task anyway under top weight in a race that has worked out extremely well, but conditions might be more in his favour this time; his form figures on ground officially described as soft or heavy read 111111, and the step up from high-class handicapper to Group sprinter is one that has been achieved by many horses in recent years”

Hedge your bets and have ago on both, the ground is changing all the time, not sure how much rain is falling now for not got any live pictures from the course, stevenson star is favourite, but could take it on with PENIAPHOBIA…… it’s going to be an odd day with the market changing all the time to the conditions, either are in with a good chance.

WITH 16mm of rain overnight, and more forecast, the going for day one of the York Dante meeting has already been changed from good to firm, to good, good to soft in places.

More than the 10mm predicted fell on the Knavesmire overnight, and while the main band of rain cleared the course at 8am, further showers are expected at least throughout the morning.

“We’re up to 16mm now, and with that in mind we are now good, good to soft in places. We’ve just got a persistent light drizzle at the moment but that is due to clear,” said clerk of the course William Derby.

“We are then expecting patchy rain through to about lunchtime, we could get none, we could get a further 2 or 3mm, and then a more showery afternoon.

“The GoingStick is currently 7.7 and the going is good, good to soft in places. We were anticipating rain so we didn’t water and as such the course has taken it really well. Today is set to be the worst day weather-wise, it should get brighter tomorrow.”
