Asbaab in the 15:10 at Newmarket.

This gelding caught the eye on debut when finishing seventh to Remote at Newbury last month. He missed the break, but kept on in good style in the closing stages and finished the race with good energy.

I think he is open to improvement and will appreciate the extra yardage. He should run well at a big price.

At present he is trading at 17.0 on the exchange.

The Jim Bolger-trained Intensified shaped extremely well on debut, finding only a superbly-bred colt of Aidan O’Brien’s too strong, and he sets a fair standard in the opening contest at Leopardstown, the 17:50. Intensified attracted plenty of support prior to the race and demonstrated a professional attitude for a horse making his racecourse debut, but the step up to seven furlongs promises to see him in an even better light and he can get off the mark.

Bath (17:45) today looks sure to be run at a frenetic pace, with more than half the field having made the running in similar events recently, and both the pace set-up and the nature of the track suggesting that the race will fall to one of the few hold-up performers in the race. Of those with such a running style, Danziger has underperformed on her last 2 starts, and hails from a yard which is going through a quiet spell of late. Amber Heights can be slowly away, and needs consideration, but is arguably best over slightly further (below best in 2 tries over C&D), and the one who makes most appeal is Molly Jones.

Derek Haydn-Jones’ filly hasn’t scored since making a winning debut in a nursery at Lingfield (turf), but she’s fallen more than a stone below that mark, and has hinted strongly at a return to form over this C&D on her last 2 starts. Third to subsequent winner Chosen One here in April when unfancied, she built on that effort when going down only to the thriving Above The Stars last time. Her conqueror that day has gone on to win no less than 3 times since, and despite being 1 lb out of the weights here, Molly Jones still looks to be well treated on the basis of that run. Guaranteed the strong pace she needs once more, it will be a huge surprise if she doesn’t go very close.

Greyhound Derby second round heats live on RPGTV on Saturday – with the favourite Ballymac Eske taking centre-stage and punters hoping Barrie Draper’s dog can step up on a workmanlike first-round victory.

    Heat 9
Barrie Draper’s Farloe Warhawk (19:54) is a terrific early paced performer who won the Puppy Derby here last year. He’s had a stop start year but showed good pace in the first round and will improve. Charlie Lister’s Silverview Pinky will be no pushover, however, and neither will Irish sprinter Stonepark Crash. A lead is vital for all three. Priceless Sky is talented for Paul Hennessy’s team but must up his game.

    Heat 10
Barrie Draper’s Ballymac Eske (20:10) is the Derby favourite and, while coming through to win his heatin workmanlike style, he will need to step up again. However, in a weakish heat with a crack draw inside, he takes the beating. Boherna Rumble showed pace to win his heat and another fast start will put the jolly under pressure. Isabels Boy’s 28.68 trial suggests better is to come and the Matt Dartnall camp have a great record in the Derby

    Heat 11
Paul Young’s Jaytee Hellcat (20:26) came through to win his Derby heat well and will step up, given a 28.34 before the event underlines his class. He has a good Wimbledon record. Islas Scolari stays on well but turn in a pitch here, while Droopys Ed Moses remains an enigmatic sort. But when he gets going (usually late) he really does power home

    Heat 12
Liz McNair’s Cabra Buck (20:42) failed to dominate in his heat but kept on well and will look to blast out in this Derby heat with slower breakers either side and a great chance to secure an early advantage in the second round. Loughteen Blanco is a terrific early paced performer but needs to find his form, and quickly. He looked a real contender towards the end of last year and will lok to blast out. Smiler Jack is strong over this trip as a 575m Romford competition winner.

    Heat 13
Barrie Draper’s Fire Height Spec (20:58) is another Draper star ready to dominate again, although his battle early with Irish star Holborn Junior might well decide this. Maybe the draw favours the white jacket if he comes away. Shaneboy Alley took a tumble after the line in his heat but has searing pace to the bend when everything clicks

    Heat 14
Keith Alsop’s Slick Santiago (21:15) ran well behind a good winner in the first round and will step up for this second round Derby heat, especially with the switch to stripes interesting even though he is a middle runner. Benkaat Blue can smash break and might need catching. Priceless Pilot finishes fastest of all.

    Heat 15
Barrie Draper’s Eden Star (21:32) showed real guts to win his first round Derby heat and, better when dominating his races, can up his game once leading up here. However, it might not all be plain sailing with Skate On set to steal a march inside. Greenwell Mentor can also ping to lead in a race where the lead might well be crucial

    Heat 16
Charlie Lister’s Lemon Pluto (21:48) can smash break inside and his battle with fast-starting Shaneboy Spencer looks key here, with both useful off the front. Timewise you have to favour the latter, but the draw and likely improvement comes from red. Screen Critic starts well, won his heat well and is best placed to sweep round if the inside pair come together.

Friday and sharing the stage with Wimbledon will be Romford and their usual cluster of open races.

Billymatt (19:31) should get back on track in the opening sprint after missing it last week, while Jaytee Thunder (20:18) looks a pup going places after last week’s win and another show of early pace and likely improvement might seal the deal again.

Bridge Ruth (20:34) had no luck at Wimbledon in the Derby heats but is interesting up in trip here and could out-stay likely leader Rays Request.

Droopys Quincy (20:50) will love the trip and draw in the puppy open, while Rathanny Annie’s (21:06) early dash could soon make hay in the bitches’ contest.

Droopys Xavier (21:24) wasn’t disgraced in the heats so could strike gold in the Doug Tyler Summer Cup final with the inside draw a real help if he can worry the likes of Head Iton Tom and Airforce Roger into the turn.

Fabulous Agenda (21:40) is fancied to get first run on Guinness Sky in a terrific duel over 400m, while Sharons Return (22:11) has scope for improvement after just two races back following a layoff and might well reverse recent form in a cracking event.

Lenson Pele (22:26) can kick fellow earlybird Bridge Jane into tough in their intriguing 575m clash, while the lucky last vote goes the way of impressive Coventry winner Aayamzalad (22:40)

    ——

Lingfield there’s been a strong drift on Star Of Rohm in the 16:30. He’s gone from 2.34 out to 3.85 and it’s easy to make a case against him. He was said to have enjoyed the rain that got into the ground at Nottingham when finally winning his maiden at the eleventh attempt and the ground today doesn’t look like being right at all. The fact it took him that long to win a race shows that he’s not one to rely on. Hayley Turner rode last time and is the perfect jockey for this horse but the trainer has reverted to young Louis Steward who has managed one win in 29 attempts. Both his market rivals looks much more straightforward sorts and you can see one of them beating the selection.

    HORSE RACING TIPS

    SATURDAY 8TH JUNE 2013
    —————————————

Newmarket’s opening maiden could well develop into a strong piece of form with several well-bred newcomers, notably Musical Comedy, Stalactite and Zarwaan, lining up against a couple that have shaped well on their debuts, namely Munjally and Gm Hopkins. We’re going to side with experience and, of the aforementioned duo, the one fancied to land the spoils is Gm Hopkins, trained by John Gosden, who cost €120,000 as a yearling and is out of the useful mare Varsity. The two-year-old caught the eye in no uncertain terms on his racecourse bow at Newbury, slowly into stride but soon travelling well at the rear of the field prior to being hampered just as he was called on for his effort, keeping on strongly without being knocked about to take fourth. The suspicion is that, with a clear run, he could have won that day and he looks open to significant improvement with that experience under his belt.

The William Haggas-trained Sun Central has won three times in his short career to date, taking a marked step forward when entering the winners’ enclosure at Salisbury on his seasonal reappearance, and although he remains open to improvement we’re going to take him on with the reopposing Castilo del Diablo, who finished four places behind him that day. A combination of rustiness and being caught out by a steady pace hindered Castilo del Diablo’s chances but he caught the eye nonetheless, hitting the line with something still left in the tank. The step up to this trip will be ideal and he is taken to reverse the form with Sun Central on 5 lb better terms here.

Enrol fancied to land the 14:55. The four-year-old has improved with each outing, tasting success on her last three visits to the track, and the likelihood is that she will progress further still as she remains unexposed. Her reappearance win at Doncaster was particularly impressive and, with her outstanding trainer firing in winners across the country, she could well take some stopping in this six-furlong handicap.

The Timeform Jury Stakes, a Group 3 staged over seven furlongs, is the highlight on Haydock’s Saturday card…

Libranno was as good as ever last term, winning 3 times, including Group 2 at Doncaster. Well beaten both starts this term, however, albeit in face of stiff tasks. Vulnerable under a penalty.

Amarillo is a smart and reliable miler in Germany, good fourth in Group 3 at Baden-Baden last time. Usually tracks pace and can go well.

Eton Forever won Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and better than ever winning listed races at Redcar and over C&D on return. Big player.

Monsieur Chevalier is seemingly not quite the force of old, but showed he’s still very useful when landing 7f Lingfield handicap. Good fourth in listed race at Ascot next time but disappointed at Windsor since.

Pastoral Player is a hold-up sort who won this event last year, and ran well when second in Summer Mile at Ascot. Better for return fourth behind Eton Forever over C&D last time, shaping well. Big run expected.

Premio Loco looked as good as ever last term, winning 3 Group contests. Bit disappointing when attempting to follow up 2012 Winter Derby win at Lingfield, though, and ran poorly at Newmarket since.

Red Duke is a smart sort who shaped well in a couple of Meydan handicaps this spring. Does need to bounce back from disappointing efforts back in this country, however. Cheekpieces replaces hood.

Red Jazz is a smart performer at his best, though beaten favourite when fourth in this 12 months ago. Respectable third behind Eton Forever in C&D listed event last time but others more solid.

      1. Eton Forever
      2. Pastoral Player
      3. Amarillo

Verdict: Eton Forever beat subsequent Diomed Stakes winner Gregorian in a listed race over C&D 4 weeks ago and a reproduction of that would make him the likely winner. Last year’s victor Pastoral Player and German raider Amarillo are feared most.

Milesey’s BET of THE day – SATURDAY
      ————————————————–

      England U21 v Norway U21,

      Saturday 17:00, Sky Sports 2

Nine consecutive wins without shipping a goal leading into the tournament cannot be achieved easily at any level of the game.

Next up is this chance of redemption against Norway and Stuart Pearce’s side should be raring to go after two victories over the Scandinavians in qualification.

An enormous aid to England’s cause is the return from suspension of Danny Rose and Tom Ince, two of their leading lights during the qualification process, as is the expected recovery from injury of Wilfried Zaha.

These fresh inclusions should give England the creative impetus that they were so badly lacking against the Italians. Meanwhile, England’s rock-solid defence – which was only breached by a free-kick in the opener – should hold up to Norway. The outsiders have gone six competitive games without a clean sheet, conceding two a match on average in the last three.

Best Bet: Back England U21 to win @ 1.84

Other Recommended Bet: Back England U21 to win 2-0 @ 9.8
