ITV Racing returns on a jam-packed day of racing and I’ve opted for 2 selections both of which come from the meeting at Newmarket.
Whitebeam 4/1 – 1:50 Newmarket
I think Roger Charltons Whitebeam is definitely worth a punt in the opener at Newmarket.
There’s strong reason to believe she can continue her progress in this rise to listed level.
Roger Charlton has seemingly taken his time with this filly, after finishing 3rd in maiden company she has since won 3 on the bounce, looking more impressive every time she’s been seen at the races.
After her win at Newbury in June in a class 4, connections opted to give her a small summer break before she returned to the race track at the start of August and ran out an impressive winner at Haydock in a class 3 handicap.
Now of a new mark of 97, I can’t help but feel that’s still underestimating her chances of progressing further. Of course on paper she has a bit to find with a few of her rivals in this field but given she’s on an upwards curve I think she’s worth a bet at 4/1.
Dance in the grass 14/1 EW – 3:00 Newmarket
I’ve opted for a bigger 14/1 each way selection as my final selection of the day. I was recently hammered on the comments by a couple for tipping a 5/1 runner each way as some people don’t see the point in backing each way at a price of 5/1 as there’s no way of earning place money.
As much as I understand that particular point I also don’t see the problem in backing a horse at 5/1 each way to cover my stake especially if taking on a short priced favourite at the head of the market. If I see a horse with decent form around 5/1 who could possibly cause an upset against a short priced favourite I’ll always back my stake. If the horse doesn’t place then that’s racing and take it with a pinch of salt.
I tipped Dance in the grass on here not too long when she was sent of a short price favourite under William Buick and she unfortunately let me down badly on the day when running an absolute stinker at Doncaster.
That being said I’m more than happy to give her another chance and strike a line through her previous run. On the day of her previous run I had my doubts about her handling the easy ground conditions and to the eye that’s what looked to be the problem which has since been echoed by connections as their reasoning on a no show.
Prior to that the Johnston filly looked a real nice prospect when winning twice at Sandown. The first of which was a class 4 maiden ,she then followed that up when stepped up into a class 1 listed race where she beat a subsequent group 3 winner in the shape of the Appleby trained Fairy Cross.
Now back on ground she prefers tomorrow I think she’s a nice each way bet at 14/1 to hopefully put that Doncaster race behind her.
Let me know in the comments your fancies for Friday's ITV racing.
Don’t understand why you got hammered for betting something ew 5/1. If it places no loss. If it wins happy days
That was my thinking Sinky, free go against a short priced favourite and if the selection places no money lost.
Unfortunately on the day the horse ran a stinker and didn’t hit the frame but that’s racing.
Good luck tomorrow.
