Friday Racing Tips: Headgear to revitalise Paisley Park

ITV racing is back tomorrow and it’s not a bad card with some well-known names on show.

All eyes will be on the Henderson runner Jonbon a full brother to Douvan who has a whopping £540,000 price tag to live up to! He’s too short to back unfortunately at 1/3 but let’s hope he lives up to expectations.

I’ve two selections for tomorrow and both of them come from the Newbury meeting.

Newbury 3:00 – Paisley Park 9/4

I backed Paisley on his last run at Wetherby in October in which he finished 3rd but was massively disappointing. I’ve rewatched his last couple of races. He appeared to lose his positioning quite easily due to hitting flat spots which then resulted in early reminders.

He did rattle on to take 3rd on his last run after being pushed on a fair way from home but the run wasn’t to the standard we know of Paisley Park.

Connections have added cheekpieces tomorrow which I’m hoping will spark him back into life. Further to the added headgear, I think the stiffness of the Newbury track can play into his favour. Newbury is a stiff track and stamina is definitely a factor that comes into play when racing here. One thing Paisley Park has is an engine, he stays for days. Even being pushed a long way from home on his previous run he still picked up.

Fingers crossed the track and headgear combo does the trick!

Newbury 3:35 Dolphin Square ( TO PLACE ) 9/4

I’ll be honest I’m not a massive fan of tipping horses to win in competitive big fields. Therefore I’ve decided to take advantage of the to place market which most online bookmakers will offer. If you are having trouble finding it feel free to comment below and I or someone else in the thread can help you locate it.

I thought 9/4 was a nice price for Dolphin Square to place and I was actually quite surprised to see him marked up at 8s in this race. He’s a consistent sort hitting the frame 4 times in his last 5 runs winning 1 of them and finishing runner up on his previous two.

He made a nice return to racing a few weeks ago at Lingfield where he finished 2nd. He can certainly build on that run and also runs off the same mark tomorrow.
