The Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase in a National Hunt Chase, open to horses who are aged five years and older and run over a distance of about of three miles and six furlongs.
Voice of Value's Tips
This is a race that gets a lot of stick from some quarters but I absolutely love watching it.
The horse who take to it really enjoy the test and it's great fun to watch them tackle the various unorthodox obstacles.
Easysland will be the short priced favourite after a fantastic performance last year and whilst I respect him there is perhaps a suspicion that he wants soft ground and it looks like it might not be soft come Wednesday.
I don't have a strong fancy for the race but the one that does interest me is previous Cheltenham winner LE BREUIL who readers might remember won the gruelling National Hunt Chase in 2019 that led to the race conditions being modified such was the slow motion finish.
I listened to Ben Pauling talk about the horse on a preview recently and he said that that race in 2019 ‘half broke' the horse and it has taken him all of this time to get him back into some form.
Even more interestingly he mentioned that they had taken Le Breuil schooling over the cross country course and that afterwards a member of the ground staff at Cheltenham had called to ask which horse it was who had been schooling because they all wanted to back him such was his performance over the obstacles.
Now all these things need to be taken with a pinch of salt and I wouldn't normally be one to lump on a horse making their debut over this unique course but in this case the 20-1 looks very appealing.
Paddy Power and Betfair are paying 4 places each way so that looks the best plan to me. I also have the added bonus here that if this all goes horribly wrong I can just blame Ben Pauling.

- Le Breuil 1pt ew at 20-1 with Paddy Power or Betfair (both 4 places)
Alan Thomson's Tips
There was 2021 Gold Cup talk about EASYLAND after he routed the Glenfarclas Chase field by 17 lengths last year.
The French challenger has run only once since, finishing fourth when giving away lumps of weight in a handicap here in November, and is favoured by today’s race conditions.
Last year’s runner-up Tiger Roll, out of sorts so far this campaign, will need to bounce back, while Le Breuil, winner of the 2019 National Hunt Chase, can give an honourable account at big odds for Ben Pauling.
