Inaugurated in 2005, the Ryanair Chase was one of several races added to the Festival when it expanded from three days to four.

All season this has been talked about how much of a procession this race is going to be for ALLAHO, and if I’m honest I’ve felt like it would be that way as well, up until the weather and ground turned to soft yesterday. The jockeys riding in the first races said how it was riding like it was heavy, and when you look into the form of Allaho on that ground, even though he has won, he doesn’t seem anywhere near as effective on it, so can be opposed.
SHAN BLUE is an interesting runner in this, and if the current rating of 148 is correct, then I’m very surprised Dan Skelton hasn’t opted to take advantage of a handicap at the festival or Aintree, as he must’ve been a shoo-in for them. He looked like an absolute weapon in the Charlie Hall at Wetherby in the early months of the season when going like 15L clear, before falling three from home. I think he could be better over 3m, so this trip is a slight concern and I think there’s better value elsewhere.
The Tizzards are having a good couple of runs this week, mostly at big odds, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his runner, ELDORADO ALLEN run well at a price. He stayed on well up the Cheltenham hill in the Arkle last year, to finish a distant runner-up to Shishkin. He has run well this year, and his run over 3m was arguably a career-best. They drop him back in trip, but on a testing track and what would appear to be testing ground, so that could suit. One to keep an eye on for the place money.
