Cheltenham Festival: Racing Post Arkle Novices’ Chase Tips

At the time of writing Energumene has recently been declared a non-runner for the race which is a shame in terms of the spectacle because it looked like it would be an epic battle between him and Shiskin.

I had intended to tip Captain Guinness at 16-1 whilst Energumene was still in the race but the race has cut up completely and he is now best price 6-1 which doesn't appeal and the each way angle is reduced with only 6 declared runners.

I thought Sky Pirate was a huge price but he also isn't declared.

I think Shiskin should win as the market suggests and I have him in my fun multiple bets but aside from that I won't have an interest in the race.

I hope Shiskin can prove himself to be a superstar because we can never have too many of those in the sport.

This is one to sit back and enjoy and then we can all debate whether he will be the winner of the Champion Chase in 2022 or not.

The absence of Energumene should render this a straightforward task for SHISHKIN.

Nicky Henderson has sent out him out to win all three starts this term and his jumping has been a joy to behold. Shishkin needed all his speed and courage to win last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and could develop into the natural successor to brilliant stable stalwart Altior.

Dan Skelton’s Allmankind is on a four-timer and carries plenty of stable confidence.

Irish challengers Franco De Port and Captain Guinness have solid form through Energumene, but need to find a bit extra to trouble Shishkin barring accidents.
