Sizing John is the right age to be peaking, he’s with the right trainer to be prepared for the Cheltenham Festival and he is adaptable with regards to ground. The only real doubt is his stamina but he is bred to stay, he’s tough, straightforward and genuine, and he’s got bags of form on the track. I really fancy him.
I think Cue Card will emerge the best of the Tizzard pair and Djakadam is sure to run well again, but I have a strong feeling for the selection.
The Triumph Hurdle (1.30) is the curtain raiser on the final day and while I’m not normally one for following trainer’s pronouncements, I think Nicky Henderson could be spot on in his assessment of CHARLI PARCS. Henderson believes Charli Parcs is in a different league to stablemate Divin Bere who ran so well in the Fred Winter on Tuesday under top weight, and I’m inclined to take a positive view of his Kempton form.
The Albert Bartlett (2.50) looks a decent enough renewal and although I have no doubt that Death Duty is a very classy horse, there will be no juice in his price and he has the feel of a vulnerable favourite. The one that makes most appeal against him is THE WORLDS END whose stable’s runners have been acquitting themselves very well this week. He looked a class act when trotting up in a Grade 2 event at Haydock on his first try at this sort of trip and there could be plenty more to come.
Unoriginally, I think ON THE FRINGE will win the Foxhunter Chase (4.10). He posted a much better prep run than he did last year and I’m concerned about the stamina of main rival Wonderful Charm in a truly-run 3m2f contest.
If Paul Nicholls is still winnerless by the final race, the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual (5.30), then I strongly fancy LE PREZIEN to get the champion trainer out of a hole. He is very smart for a horse rated in the 140’s and his form behind the likes of Charbel, L'Ami Serge and Top Notch makes him a borderline Grade 1 animal. He’s not the slickest jumper in the world but a bit of rain would help him and a strongly run two mile on easy ground would be ideal. I like him a lot.
