Kim Muir Challenge Cup Betting Tips
A confusing race to end the day for day three of the Festival, and normally it’s best to follow the best jockeys in this race, with it being an Amateur’s only race, but this time around I think some of the claimers might be on the better ride.
FRONTAL ASSAULT will attract attention as he is the ride or R James, who combined with Gordon Eliott back in 2020 with Milan Native to win this race. This horse last ran in a race which Milan Native also ran in before going on to win this race, but for a horse who hasn’t won a race, he is plenty short enough in the market, and there are better EW alternatives. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was to win this, as there is a strong chance that he’ll take the step up in trip in his stride, but at around 6/1 he’s not for me.
The mount of MR H C Swan is my selection in the race, and that is FAKIR D’ALENE. This horse has a similar profile to his stablemate who is much shorter than him in the market but has actually managed to win a couple of races along the way. Gordon is confident that a step up in trip will suit, and when he thinks that you have to believe the man, as he doesn’t get it wrong all too often. The jockey booking doesn’t concern me, as he has a decent record when riding for Gordon. He has ridden for him just the seven times, resulting in one win and a further four placed efforts, so he is more than capable of riding, and does get on some decent EW shots for Gordon. The positive for this horse is that we know he’ll handle the ground, but also the fact he has already won, which is such a big plus in my eyes. At the prices available he looks a good each-way bet with the enhanced places on offer.
Whatever Jamie Codd, David Maxwell, Derek O’Connor and Patrick Mullins are riding will be well supported and those names are: SMOKING GUN, CAT TIGER, SCHOOL BOY HOURS and MISTER FOGPATCHES, so if you’re a punter who goes for the experienced jockeys in a race like this, these are the ones you’ll be looking out for.
As I’ve mentioned, this is a tricky race, so it’ll be a small bet only on my selection.
