RACE two on the first day sees one of my antepost selections in Min in the Arkle Challenge Trophy. Willie Mullins has won this the last two years with Un De Sceaux 2015 and Douvan 2016 with Champagne Fever just touched off in 2014 and I still don’t know how Western Warhorse won that race as Fever was the winner everywhere bar the line.

Arkle Challenge Trophy 2.05 Tuesday March 14th

Min – Willie Mullins 3-1 (now a non-runner)

This horse last year was my lay of the meeting and he duly obliged by coming second to Altior, I always said this horse would be a far better chaser than hurdler, hence me advising this horse antepost at 7-1. He hasn’t raced against much but he looks far better than he did over hurdles, he settles better in his races which was his downfall last year but again that comes down to the change to chasing.

Min is a fantastic jumper so expect to see a different horse this year, connections are very confident with this horse, it’s a bit early for a bet of the meeting but Min would have a chance of being that horse.

Altior – Nicky Henderson 4-6 10bet (now 1-3)

The reason he is so short is because he beat Min last year but the bookies are relying too much on that for their odds. Altior is a good horse and is 3 from 3 over fences and although he jumps well enough I don’t see him as natural as Min, we still don’t know where he will go as he could end up in the Champion Chase or even the Champion hurdle as connections have always seen him as a Champion hurdle horse.

Altior is no value for me at odds on and if he was to run here and if Min was to run then Altior might be one of my lay bets but I will wait closer to race day for that.

Yorkhill – Willie Mullins 4-1 (10bet)

I can’t see Yorkhill running in this unless Min doesn’t run but there is a possibility that he could run here and if he does then I would fancy him. Yorkhill was one of my bets of the meeting last year as he beat Yanworth, since going chasing he has looked good even if some people weren’t convinced last time out, I was.

He didn’t jump as well but that was down to him wanting to go faster and the two mile Arkle could be perfect for him but only if Min doesn’t run. He could also go in the Champion hurdle which wouldn’t surprise me, if only we could read Willie Mullins mind.

It’s hard to get excited about anything else as you really can’t see anything else beating the three mentioned
