4.10 Foxhunter Chase
Friday 13 March | Age: 5yo+ | Prize: £45,000
The Foxhunter Chase is a race held for amateur riders on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival. It is run over a distance of about 3 miles and 2 and a half furlongs on the New Course.
I’M no expert on this field of hunter chasers so I won’t pretend to be miles ahead of the bookies on this one.
I do think we have an angle in though because Minella Rocco is a risky proposition given his complete lack of form for the last two years until switched into hunter chases.
He’s a very dodgy favourite for me so I’m looking for value elsewhere.
STAKER WALLACE is the one I have landed on. Completely unexposed despite being a 9 year old and Jamie Codd takes the ride which swings it for me. There are 5 places each way widely available so make sure you take them.

HAZEL HILL (4.10) ran out a four lengths winner of the Foxhunters’ Chase last year and seems sure to be back in the thick of the action.
He was quite soundly beaten by smooth-travelling Minella Rocco at Wetherby in early February but is 5lb better off today. Proven course form swings the vote in his favour.
Besides Minella Rocco, McManus is represented by Enda Bolger’s Staker Wallace, beaten by Billaway at Naas but enjoying a 5lb swing here.
Don Poli, third to Don Cossack in the 2016 Gold Cup, has won his last two points, which may have re-kindled some enthusiasm.

This race was an absolute nightmare to find a selection in, as it's so difficult to compare form among the different horses.
I must say I don't have a strong selection in this race, but the one I like the look of is BILAWAY who has been nothing but impressive in his two runs this season. He ran an absolute blinder behind Dylrow, where he was running on the back of a 248 day break, and then he won next time out by 8 lengths.
There are many old veterans in this race who have took part in this race many times before, like Hazel Hill, who won this race last year. But I'm siding with the young pretender who might have too much fire power for the older horses, and has a great jockey riding him in an amateurs race.
