THE BOOKIES giveth and the bookies taketh away!

That was the story on day one of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival. Things got off to a flier for punters as Appreciate It and Shishkin duly delivered on their short priced favouritism and when Honeysuckle mopped up the Champion Hurdle with Rachael Blackmore on board it look the bookmakers were on for an opening day kicking but Black Tears had something to say about that!

Tipped by the Voice of Value at 14/1, Jack Kennedy's mount pipped Concertista on the line to end many punters' hopes of a spectacular opening day favourites four-fold.

To add insult to injury the shock of the day followed in the next race when Irish raider Jack Kidder emerged from the pack to get the better of another favourite, Saint Sam, at a massive 80/1.

On to Day Two at the Cheltenham Festival and in case you missed yesterday's, I'll be posting a race-by-race preview, alongside the Voice of Value. There's too much to fit them all on one page so click the links below to read about each race in depth. All the tips are summarised here though.

Race-by-Race Tips & Racecard

⭕️ 1.20 Ballymore Novices' Hurdle Tips

What a great start to the festival Ireland 5 winners.
Had 4 winners myself ,Honeysuckle the pick of them all my .nap of the meeting
But credit to DC with a 80/1 winner and pete with another 20/1 winner well done everyone.
Concertista letting me down on a lot of bets

Race 1 Bob Olinger backed antepost 7/2 only 5/4 now but he is the one t hey all have to beat
Race 2 Monkfish 4/6 cant see anything beat him
Race 3 Blue sari 9/1 with Double Carpet on this one after him tipping a 80/1 winner today
Race 4 Chacun Pour Soi backed it antepost 11/4 only 4/5 now
Race 5 no bet for me unless dc have another 80/1 shot for us🤣
Race 6 Chosen mate 8/1 Backed him last year with davy on board i think he will run a big race .
Race 7 it was a hard choice between Kilcruit x Sir Gerhard ,but i went for Kilcruit 7/4

    good luck all

After a decent day yesterday we move on to Day 2.

    Ballymore

I backed GDM ew antepost but if I’m honest I think Bob Olinger brings the best form and have backed him as a saver.
The top 3 in the market are 10lbs ahead of the rest and a reverse tricast could be the way to go as I just can’t see any of the remainder making the frame. It was 9/4 yesterday with pp, but I see it is now 13/8.

    Brown Advisory

    Monkfish wins…..Next race

    Coral Cup

I backed Koshari after the DRF as he was a real eye catcher having made a blunder early on and finishing strongly without being overworked. He’s only been put up 2lbs by the UK H’capper which I think is well within his capabilities.
I also mentioned Blue Sari as a possible JP plot and he’s been well supported so backed him aswell.
Another at a big price is Janika who has course form and carrys 20lbs less back over hurdles than fences. He would have needed his first run this year having been off for almost a year.

    Champion Chase

I really hope CPS wins for Mullins. He’s been very impressive this year.
At 7/2 b365 though, I think Put the Kettle On in the W/O market is a cracking bet. Is 3-3 at Cheltenham and gets that all important 7lbs.

    X Country

    No real interest. Easysland wins

    Grand Annual

    Remember the name……Jordan Gainford.
This guy is the new Jack Kennedy and his 7lb claim will be worth following throughout the festival.
He’s on Chosen Mate who won this race last year with a bit in hand and is just 2lbs higher with the jockeys claim.
I also backed Entoucas ew antepost purely based on trends.

    Bumper

I have Kilcruit at a big price and couldn’t believe what we were watching at the DRF as he was the easiest winner I think I’ve ever seen.
It was a falsely run race though as they went off too hard and had nothing left in the end which made life a bit easier.
I will be shocked though if the winner doesn’t come from the top 2 in the market.

    Happy St Patrick’s Day 🍀

Well done to everyone who picked out some winners today, especially ew thief and and DC for their big winners, and of course my contribution Tico Times. I just want to say, I know I put this up at 66/1 but that’s the price I got last night. I didn’t think me having a £1 ew and putting it in my lucky 15 would bring the price in to 20/1. If I put anything on here, its not a tip, it’s what I fancy myself. This morning I put my lucky 15 on here with prices I got last night.
It’s not my fault if the price comes in. Anyway, you can’t grumble at a 20/1 winner😁

Made that decision after watching Kilcruit last race in a Group 2 again. Couldn’t have won easier with plenty in hand and being eased down inside the final furlong with P.Mullins looking back with the race won well before. Paul Townend is obviously a great change of Jockey. Sir Gerhard is a danger but still can’t see past him.

GL all today hopefully more like yesterday!

Quick question guys- watching the racing yesterday one of the horses basically went off course and ran around at least one of the jumps. Just wondering would that count as a disqualification?
I think the jockey was unseated in the end so was irrelevant, but if the horse had placed or even won would it have been disqualified, and would that have been immediate or following a post race enquiry? Curious how that would impact any bets on that horse?

    • Avatar of WN
      wn 4 years ago

Think you mentioned ROYAL PAGAILLE the other day and im with you there .Like Haydock form going into Cheltenham
similar course same stiff fences and both have a difficult run in .

So going back to December saw Royal Pagaille when a novice event at Haydock and noted it down then.
And then when it went on to win the Peter Marsh that decided that was my bet at Cheltenham.

Cheltenham much more undulating than Haydock but should handle that.

oisin murphy back today for 1 in the last at lingfield. worth an eye i suppose. in the 1405L CLASHANISKA was put up here a few days ago, is out again 6/5 is skinny, but despite having the run of the race, he may well go in again, at the price only an acca booster. then chancing two for same connections at Huntingdon, backing both EW to a level stake and will be disappointed to end at a a loss despite both being chancy.

    1310H – Torrent Des Mottes 10/1 ew
two wins both here, won this race last year, 1lb lower.
    1530H – Leskinfree 8/1 ew

Loved the way she squeezed Cobden into the rail coming round the final bend DC just to make sure Townend couldn’t skip through the inside 😁😁😁
Bob Olinger was Jamie Codd’s best bet if the festival for weeks glad I got some 7/2 😁

In profit after Ibleo Ew(Super by Sky Pirate!) but Chacun Por Soi was a let down fir a few bets but it’s rarely 2 ‘great‘ days in a row and it’ll be a Yankee tomorrow and the £10 Skybet special on the first for me tomorrow I think an that’s that !

    BUT….there’s plenty of on Kilcruit.
So cmon ,one more favourite and it’s gravy!

One decent sized bet in US 🇺🇸🐎…

    Smoking Class -R8 Tampa. 10/11 (*****) Bet365

Hate to through favourites about but..

Epic Express now 2nd Favs gone are 11/8 seems decent as it well ahead in the ratings and only it’s 3rd run after being unlucky lto.

      An that’s that I think.

Well done the winners an onwards to tomorrow 👍

Tiger roll was simply awesome .
Does anyone know if he can be supplemented for the national?
The owners have to go for the national after that demolition job. It’s a once in a lifetime chance for gigginstown to have a triple grand national winner. It wouldnt be easy but he would go there with a good chance.

No he cant but will go to the Irish national with a lovely weight on his back 👍

Thats disappointing but I suppose it’s the owners decision at the end of the day. With or without a 3rd national tiger roll is still one of the greatest national horses of all time.
