THE Ante-post Cheltenham tips continue as Voice of Value takes a look at the second day of racing at the Festival.
1.30pm Ballymore Novices Hurdle
I think that CHAMP is a solid win prospect here. He is technically a second-season novice hurdler having lost by a length to Vinndication in January of last year. Since then he had a break and came back to win 4 hurdles races.
Ultimately I think he will be a top class chaser but I think he can take this race before going chasing next season.
He looks like the class act in the race to me ahead of Battleoverdoyen and Classical Dream.
There isn't anything lurking further down the market that I like the look of and I'm going with the favourite.
2.10pm RSA Novices Chase
It's another favourite that I am really keen on here. DELTA WORK has a really solid chance here having won top class novice chases this season and also winning at the festival last year.
His price has come in a bit in recent days due to Santini's injury concern which means we aren't getting the 100/30 that looked like a gift last week.
I was a Santini fan last season and I thought he would make a great staying chaser but so far he hasn't blown me away over fences.
Delta Work has no issue with the ground and we know he will stay up the hill and I think he should be a bit shorter for this.
2.50pm Coral Cup
My current selection for this one is WHISKEY SOUR who has an entry for this and also for the County Hurdle. He has proven himself to be a classy stayer on the flat (currently rated 103) and he was also excellent in the County Hurdle last season finishing a good 3rd.
The further distance in this versus the County Hurdle should suit him better and I think he is a great each way shout.
I'm going for a small each way bet just now and I may go in again once we know more about the enhanced place terms on offer next week.
3.30pm Champion Chase
ALTIOR is almost certainly the best jumps horse in training and that is reflected in his very short price here. If he runs even somewhere close to his usual form then none of the rest will get near him.
I'll revisit the race the day before to see if there is any value in betting without the favourite or betting winning distances but no bet for the moment.
4.10pm Cross Country
TIGER ROLL isn't a certainty to run but as things stand it looks like he is a likely runner and if he does take his place he could make a mockery of them again.
I sided with Cause of Causes in this last year against Tiger Roll due to his course form but he never got going and Tiger Roll was magnificent.
The Grand National winner is on course for another shot at Aintree and the old adage about Grand National winners struggling to win another race doesn’t apply to this lad who bolted up in a hurdles race last month.
If he jumps round here (which isn't easy of course with all sorts of obstacles in his way) he should win easily.
I'm not going to bother with a bet at the moment because he is only an even money shot but if you are looking to get some multiple bets on I would throw this lad into the mix.
4.50pm Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle (aka Fred Winter)
This is always a tough race to pin down because it's a race for juvenile hurdlers and we don't have tons of form to go on.
The one that I like at the moment is FRIEND OR FOE. He is very well thought of at the Nicholls yard and I think he represents a strong each way chance.
They deliberately held him back for this rather than run again after his win in December. He still needs a few to drop out but assuming that they do then he gets in on a low weight and has a great chance.
5.30pm Champion Bumper
The one that I fancied for this (Alright Sunshine for Keith Dalgleish) appears not to have been given an entry today so I need to go back to the drawing board and see if I can find some other value because the favourites are too short in the market for me. I'll hopefully have more on this next week.
