The market for this one has completely turned on its head with the unexpected change of direction for the Mullins camp with Vautour who we were told would ‘run in the Gold Cup or stay at home’ yet here he is lining up in the Ryanair at a short price.
I’m not convinced that he is only at 90% as Rich Ricci suggested on Tuesday when the decision was announced. I suspect they have realised what I suspected long ago: Vautour won’t stay the trip in the Gold Cup.
Regardless of the comments about his wellbeing, I can’t get away from last year’s performance in the JLT over a similar distance here and then in the King George where he was pipped on the line by the narrowest of margins. He will win this with his head in his chest and I am going to make him the first leg of my daft Thursday/Friday accumulator – more on that later.
I already have VILLAGE VIC in my antepost portfolio at 16/1 but his price has now drifted to 25/1 as a result of Vautour’s inclusion. I would be inclined to have another small each way bet on him at that price because his appeal has not diminished.
He might also be one to consider as an each way bet in the ‘Without Vautour’ market.
