Coral Cup
- 2.50pm
- Hurdles race
- Run over 2 miles 5 furlongs
- Notoriously competitive and difficult to find a winner
- Last 11 favourites have all been beaten
This is a race to tread carefully in – a big field all tightly handicapped with plenty of scope for trouble in-running – but if you can find a winner the chances are it will be a big price and you won’t forget it in a hurry.
Like most of the handicaps at the festival you can make a case for just about any of the entries so I’m looking for those that have the potential to be much better than their current handicap mark.
POLITOLOGUE for Paul Nicholls is one that is very lightly raced and could have the scope for massive improvement. Nicholls is very keen on him and his recent win at Exeter was very impressive. The other one that I like has had more exposure on the course but as a five year old is still open to more improvement and carries a nice low weight in the handicap.
That horse is BARON ALCO ridden by Jamie Moore and trained by his old man Gary Moore. They know better than most how to ready a horse for the big occasion and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them come up the hill with a fair bit left in the tank. Those would be my two against the field in what is a very tricky handicap.
Recommendations:
- POLITOLOGUE – 1pt e/w at 10/1 (Ladbrokes)
- BARON ALCO – 1pt e/w at 20/1 (Ladbrokes)
