TRIOLO D'ALENE has been well backed for the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup and the sponsors have reacted by shortening him to 16-1 (from 20-1).
Punters began nibbling away at the Hennessy winner last week ahead of Sunday’s surprise announcement the seven-year-old is being targeted at jump racing’s Blue Riband.
Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: “Triolo d’Alene has been much the best-backed horse over the last few days, particularly since Nicky Henderson announced he is an intended Gold Cup runner.
“The support suggests punters are more than hopeful the Hennessy winner can make his presence felt at the highest level.”
My Tent Or Yours has been eased slightly to 9-2 (from 4-1) for the Stan James Champion Hurdle following the news he has suffered a small setback.
The Christmas Hurdle winner is not expected to miss the race but Betfred reacted by trimming Hurricane Fly and The New One to 5-2 (from 3-1). Jezki – in the same ownership as My Tent Or Yours – has also been cut to 8-1 (from 10-1).
Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup: 7/4 Bobs Worth, 3 Silviniaco Conti, 6 Last Instalment, 14 Captain Chris, First Lieutenant, 16 Triolo d’Alene, 20 Harry Topper, The Giant Bolster, 25 Boston Bob, Dynaste, Rocky Creek, 33 Lord Windermere, 40 Unioniste, 50 Katenko, Knockara Beau, Lyreen Legend, Mount Benbulben, Teaforthree, 66 Bog Warrior, Cloudy Too, Houblon Des Obeaux, Medermit, Roi Du Mee, Vino Griego.
Meanwhile, Betfred have chalked up Regal Encore at 20-1 to win Saturday’s William Hill Imperial Cup and go on to score in any race at next week’s Cheltenham festival.
Regal Encore, owned by JP McManus, is 3-1 with Betfred and needs to win to book his place at the festival.
The six-year-old, runner-up in last year’s Champion Bumper, is 5-1 for the Martin Pipe with Betfred and 6-1 for the County Hurdle.
Betfred spokesman Andrew Griffiths said: “Regal Encore looks the archetypal Cheltenham plot horse. If he can get the first part of the job done on Saturday, 20-1 will look very tasty indeed.”
Both Lac Fontana and Vibrato Valtat are well fancied for the Imperial Cup and are priced at 50-1 with Betfred to follow up at the festival. New Year’s Eve and Swing Bowler are 80-1.
William Hill Imperial Cup (Betfred odds): 3 Regal Encore, 5 Vibrato Valtat, 7 Lac Fontana, 8 Baltimore Rock, 10 New Year’s Eve, Swing Bowler, 12 Fourth Estate, Get Back In Line, 14 The Skyfarmer, 16 Gassin Golf, Harristown, Little Jon, Somemothersdohavem, 20 Court Minstrel, 25 First Avenue, Knight Of Pleasure, Prompter, 50 Chesil Beach Boy, Skint.
